Dude is going to be rollin around in a wheel chair on the field, but somehow still boxing out defenders effectively.

I'm guessing this is a 2017 cap relief extension. they will probably save $5 million or so this year and move that money to guaranteed money in the future and suffer the hit at a future date, he isn't playing 4 more years.

2017 was the last year on his contract, IRRC, so he was getting an extension regardless of the cap situation. He last couple of years of the contract is probably just base salary.

I know Ima get crisp for saying this.. But man he's never been special to me. Such a slow runner who ran some cringe worthy routes.. Dude looked like a cement truck out there..

But he made due and he's built himself a great HOF career.. But no way is he in my top 5 TE's of all time.. He's a great player.. But watching him play i never saw that wow.. His resume speaks for itself though.. Special accomplishments, Just not my cup of tea.

Gronk
Kellen Winslow
Tony G
Antonio Gates
Shannon Sharpe..

Well he wasn't going anywhere, unless Romo ended up in a good situation and he wanted to join him next year. Still it is most likely he would be a career Cowboy and the reason this was done now is to lower his 12 million cap hit in 2017.

Thought he was older actually. Should just about cover the rest of his career.

Solid deal all around, Witten can retire any time he wants and the cowboys get cap relief with zero future commitment to witten other than this year.
