So, I thought it would be cool to have some in depth discussion on specific positions.
It would also put on "paper" who our guys are in those positions.
I think we have an certain agreement on the positions we need....
WR
CB
S
LB (OLB and ILB)
TE

If you'd like to participate..All good! Smile In this thread...we talk about WR's. Our favorites...who we think the Titans will pick. etc.

First up the WR spot.

Now I love to scout this position. I think I've been able to spot some good ones in my day. Smile
Loved Jordy Nelson coming out. But also like Limas Sweed! lol

But in this draft I have some favorites.

Zay Jones
Ryan Switzer
Mack Hollins
ArDarius Stewart
JuJu Smith-Schuster
Chad Henson
Amara Darboh
Corey Davis

I'm growing a love for John Ross. I think he is a good WR, but those knees worry me.

I love Corey Davis like most and I think that is a given on most people's list.
But Zay Jones. I think I love him more. I just think he is an all around good WR. Great routes, great hands, good speed. I think he is better than Mike Williams honestly.
I don't know if there is a player I want more on the roster than Zay Jones.
Is he an #1 WR? Most like no. I think he is a high level #2, just like Matthews.

I don't think there are any Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones type #1 WRs. I think we can get #1 production though from our group. Matthews and someone like Jones.
Davis looks to be a #1 type, but I still am not convinced he will be a game changer. I think he will be very good. But not Julio good.

Do we go the Seattle route and have a group of high level #2's. Or take a stab at Davis/Williams and hope they evolve into threats.

If I can just get some confirmation from some reports that the combine showed Ross' knees to be no issue going forward, I'd take him over Davis and Williams.

My Personal list of WRs I want on this roster if I'm being honest..

1. John Ross
2. Zay Jones
3. Corey Davis
4. JuJu Smith-Schuster
5. Mike Williams

I feel like i'm supposed to want Corey Davis over everyone, but honestly i don't. I think Ross is a game changing WR due to his skills and speed.

I think Jones is the type of WR that will continue to get better and you look up after a game and you see dang...he had 9 catches for 104 yards and a TD.

Corey Davis looks to have all the elements of an #1.

JuJu is physical and reminds me of Boldin.

Williams makes great catches on the 50/50 balls.

Our WR depth chart right now is frightening.

1.) Rishard Matthews
2.) Tajae Sharpe
3.) Harry Douglas Laughing
4.) Tre McBride
5.) Eric Weems

A good #2 in Matthews and to me a #4 WR in Sharpe. The rest is trash. If I had one gripe about FA, it was not targeting the WR position and landing a potential #1. I wasn't high on any of the guys(Jeffery due to injuries) but I still think we should've targeted at least Jeffery. That would've given us so much leverage in the draft specifically the 1st round. I think looking at that depth chart, it's damn near a guarantee we take a WR in the 1st. I'd say it's a guarantee one of Davis, Ross, or Williams will be a Titan. No way in hell they think a mid round guy could come in and be a big time contributor right away(Sharpe was not a big time contributor). I like a lot of guys in this draft....

1.) Corey Davis - Been my #1 since pretty much day 1. Would have no problem taking him at 5. Can play inside and outside and is a willing blocker. A perfect fit for this offense and fits what Mularkey and Robinson like in a player. Top 15

2.) Mike Williams - I like the guy but after watching him, I always want to see more from him. The speed is/was an issue and could play a factor in his ability to separate at the next level. However, not every WR is running a 4.4 or better. I didn't like that he didn't run a 40 at the combine. He ran around a 4.56-4.58 at his pro day but 40 times at pro days can never be trusted. Scouts time the players themselves so they go off their own time. He probably runs around a late 4.5 to early 4.6. That's not great but it could be much worse. Williams wins with his big body and has a big frame to make the contested catches. High pointing the ball is also a strength for Williams. Top 20

3.) John Ross - The injuries are worrisome. Lattimore has a injury history but Ross's is frightening. Plus, he struggles big time against press coverage. I like him but I can't look past the injury history. Too many knee injuries for my liking even for the #18 pick. Late 1st

4.) Chris Godwin - One of the more underrated prospects in the draft to me. Maybe it's my Delaware bias Laughing I remember coaching against this kid in high school. Matchup nightmare at that point. Had a very good combine and to me seems like a guy who Mularkey and Robinson would like. 2nd round prospect.

5.) Zay Jones - Has had a very good offseason including the senior bowl and combine. I like him but I think he has the same weaknesses Sharpe had coming out. Struggles against press and getting consistent separation. He's obviously better than Sharpe and I think Jones can be a good #2 much like Matthews. 2nd Round

6.) JuJu Smith-Schuster - Was a lot of people's #1 WR going into this past season. I liked him a lot and still do. I've seen him compared to Anquan Boldin and I like it to an extent. I think Boldin coming out was just a physical beast though. Wasn't the fastest guy but would lay somebody out quick on a block. I don't think JuJu is quite that physical but I do think JuJu can be a high end #2. He's a guy a hope falls to the 3rd but I highly doubt it. 2nd Round

Some 3rd round guys I like.... Taiwan Taylor, Carlos Henderson, and ArDarius Stewart. Cooper Kupp I've tried to like but just don't.

In 2008 draft many people had us picking limas sweed in the first. No WR went in first round. The only two significan WRs taken were the third one chosen at #36 and the 7th one chosen at #49. . The rest were busts or role players. This might be same type of year.

I've been on the Corey Davis bandwagon as well. I'd still like to add a FA WR Anquan Boldin is still out there he's not the fastest guy in the league but the guy always finds a way to get open and makes a lot of tough catches I think he would fit in well here

I think this draft will be similar to last year's WR draft. Williams, like Treadwell, looks to be the #1 WR on most available boards... but he may fall a bit come draft day, and go after a speedster.

I personally still have Williams as the top WR in the draft this year, but I can see a team drafting Ross before him.

As for Davis, I want to like him as the top WR. On one hand, he dominated his competition... on the 2nd hand, the competition he dominated was kinda a joke. His speed looks decently fast on most film, but most film also doesn't have him going up against top athletes. I think he's a 1st rounder, but I also think there's a better chance he falls out of the 1st round than him being the top WR drafted.

I don't love any of the second round WRs... Jones I haven't seen film of, but I like what I'm reading from the scouting sites. He may sneak into the 1st, and looks like a lock to not make it out of the 2nd. Schuster-Smith I just do not like... I guess I just couldn't get over how Humphrey completely shut him down in week 1. I honestly don't see the difference between him and Sharpe.

Samuel, Godwin, and Brown (OSU) are all intersting prospects in the late 2nd/early 3rd range. I also like Kupp and Stewart in the late 3rd/early 4th. Cannon (Baylor) looks like he'd be a steal in the 4th/5th range, and could be Wright's replacement, and possibly turn into a very good slot WR in a couple of years.

Edit: In FA, I still want Floyd or Quick. At this point, you can get Floyd on a very cheap, incentive-laden, prove it kinda deal. I know his off-field problems, and I know that he has never quite lived up to his potential. But physically, he's everything I feel we need on this team right now.

I don't want JuJu unless he's there in the third round. If you watch anything other than a highlight film of him he is rather unimpressive.

I watch JuJu's game videos, not just highlight and I still like him.
I like how he is physical and attacks the ball. He has large hands. I also like the effort he gives in his routes. I think he plays faster than he timed.

I can't get with Mike Williams. I think he runs lazy routes and just don't see him as anything more than a jump ball specialists. He would have to go to a vertical offense like the Cardinals. We don't attack downfield like that and I don't see him being productive here.

I just don't see anything impressive about Cooper Kupp. I think he is at best a 50 catch 600 yard guy.

Philip Dorset may have just become available from the colts. He's battled injuries for most of his career but he certainly has the speed. Send the colts a 5th rounder for him.

It's a tough class for WRs to me. I feel like every guy leaves a lot to be desired in one way or another. Small school, injuries and speed concerns. There's no guy that truly checks every box. I also still don't see JRob valuing the position like many on here do. I think most people will be quite surprised come draft day.

That said I'm liking Ross more and more. Really wish he didn't have the knees. Man is that dude fast. It would be pretty awesome to have the fastest guy in the league again.

I agree that we may wait for WR again this year. I don't see any way we go WR at 5... maybe if we trade down outside the top 10. I see it more likely at 18... but if they want to wait and get a couple of mid round guys (the "Seattle" route), and see if one of them hits...

That's how I feel. I would be ok with him with our later 3rd, similar to Kupp. Both remind me of Sharpe, with a little more upside maybe.

If we can get one of those guys with that last 3rd, a guy like Cannon with our 5th, and if we can sign a guy like Floyd, we have what could be a deep mostly interchangeable rotation at WR... and although no #1 could be counted on right now, there is some potential...

Matthews
Floyd
Stewart/Kupp/JSS
Sharpe
Cannon (slot)
Weems (STs)

I'd really like Josh Reynolds or Malachi Dupre in 3rd or 4th round. Both attach the ball in the air and Dupre was held back by the QBs at LSU. I think both could end up being steals

To me, JuJu seems slower than he timed. I was expecting around a 4.62. I really didn't like Treadwell and he's basically the same thing. If you want a WR who's best quality is run-blocking, they're your guys.

Josh Reynolds seems to be an one trick pony to me. Deep Ball threat and appears rail thin.

Dupre.....Man I just don't know. I can't find much to love, but I don't hate anything either. He would the pure definition of "meh" pick, to me.

I don't see it. Maybe my eyes are jaded. lol
I thought he'd run about a 4.5

I also didn't care for Treadwell. I was forcing myself to not hate him. I think JuJu gets better with NFL coaching. He is only like 20. He is willing to block. I love the way he catches the ball.

I'd take him in the 3rd depending on how things laid out.

I thought you were right there with me on Treadwell... musta been someone else though

And that that's my big disclaimer here... I loved Treadwell last year... at one point I thought he'd be a great pick if we traded down to ~5. Later in the offseason, when I began to accept his speed limitations, I still loved him at 15. But he was a terrible bust in his first year on a team that could have desperately used the help of a WR.

(Tunsil and Billings were my other top guys from last year's draft... man, it's not looking good for me with at least 2 of those guys right now)
