If Johnny Manziel returns to the NFL, it could be as the backup to Drew Brees. Thats the word from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, who reports that Saints coach Sean Payton has taken an interest in Manziel and talked to him about a return to football.

In New Orleans, Manziel would have no chance of earning a starting job, but he could earn a spot as a backup to Brees, where hed learn from a veteran quarterback and perhaps get himself ready to be a starter some day.

Manziel and T'eo under the same roof? They'd be keeping quite the company over there. Laughing

Manziel in the city of New Orleans? Good luck with that.

I've claimed that N.O. would be the best spot for him since the Browns released him. Speaking just football of course.

Of course I also think he can be a good QB and that system would be good for him.

Saints are going to be lucky, just like the Packers were, going from one franchise HOF QB to the next.

Didn't they draft a QB a few years ago.

Maybe Johnny Unemployed can get the job as the #3, but that's it.

They cut that QB before the start of the season I believe and kept Luke McCown over him so...Not looking good for him.

No one should care about Manziel until he actually signs with a team or works out until then he's just another washed out QB with too big of a name.

Why not? He'll come cheap and if he's trouble you just cut him.

Probably won't even push McCown for the backup job but you never know.

Manziel getting signed while Kaep is still looking for work would be a travesty.

What does that matter? If he messes up once he's gone. He'll have no leeway anymore, especially with a hard ["butt"] like Payton as his coach. Is there more trouble for him to get into in NOLA? Sure, but it doesn't matter as he has no second chances after this.

I don't hate the guy. I hope he can turn it around. It's not like he needs the money so this could be a pretty genuine move.

At least Kaep has had moments in his pro career where he looked good borderline great.

Manziel, not so much.

I'd imagine Manziel is asking for significantly less money, which probably plays into this more than his talent.
