The thing I try to stress to ppl about AP is the fact that he was 9 yards short of the single season rushing record in a PASS heavy NFL system. 20-30 years ago, RB's were the focal point of offenses. These days, WRs.

What he did that season was truly nothing short of greatness. To me, he is the greatest smash mouth RB in history. Not saying he has the hardest hits of all the greats per say, but his combo of strength and speed was and is just so rare.

He's a top-5 all-time RUSHER. I think if Adrian was playing in the early to mid 90's or earlier before the NFL became such a pass focused league and didn't miss seasons at a time, he'd be close to having the most rushing yards of all time over Emmitt.

But if you add all the responsibilities of a RB (running, blocking, pass catching, HOLDING ONTO THE BALL), I think he belongs around the 8-12 range.

I don't think we'll see a running back single-handedly carry a team to the playoffs like he did in 2012 for a long, long time if ever again.

1. Walter Payton
2. Jim Brown
3. Emmitt Smith
4. Barry Sanders
5. Eric Dickerson
6. Ladainian Tomlinson
7. Marshall Faulk
8. Adrian Peterson
9. Tony Dorsett
10. Moe Williams

I think he's the best pure runner perhaps ever.

But definitely not the best overall. That would be Sanders, and I've only seem highlights of him.

I know I'd take Tomlinson and "Sweetness" over him too.

So overall, he's #4 or #5 for me.

Sanders
Tomlinson

Payton
Peterson/Brown

I've been watching The NFL since 1951. I'd put Adrian in the Top 5 All Time of pure runners, with Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Gayle Sayres, and maybe, Walter Payton(although he, like AP, had holes in their overall games as a running back).
As far as "Greatest Viking", I'd put him 3rd, behind Alan Page and Fran Tarkington.
