Spielman: “Adrian is probably going to go down as one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings in team history. He will always be a Viking, I know to our fans and to the people in this building, and he will always have a special place in this franchise. We are very fortunate that we were able to have predominantly most of Adrian Peterson’s career as a Minnesota Viking.”

With 28's career coming to an end in Minnesota, where in your mind does he rank all-time? Feel free to discuss his place in both Minnesota history and his place among the league's best RBs.

Being that I'm only 25, I obviously didn't get to see a lot of Viking greats. However, my dad made sure I had a good understanding of Viking lore so I'll give it a try.

Alan Page seems like he belongs as the greatest Viking of all time, and Fran is a very close second. From there I think we're talking about Randle, Eller, McDaniel, Krause, and then I think Peterson belongs in that group with guys like Foreman, Jim Marshal, Moss and maybe Jared Allleb in tow

I think fans have a bitter taste in their mouths over how these last three years have gone, and how Peterson could never evolve his game to be a better reciever and blocker. This shows a bit of recency bias however, and really forgets just how good he was.

The bottom line is the league probably hasn't seen a better pure runner, and 2012 should go down as the either the best or second best season by a running back ever. All of that speaks a lot to where he should stand in the pantheon of Viking greats. Which in my opinion, is that he should still stand pretty high, even if not perhaps as high as he could have.

he isn't the best back in the NFC NORTH or CENTRAL, Sanders is a better back, but he is #2.

Peterson was the first pick (I was 15) that I can truly remember being stoked about. I'll never forget his first preseason game against the Jets and that first big run he busted off. I don't know exactly the order, but I bet he is definitely in the top 10 of Vikings all time.

He's the best pure runner that I was able to watch. Probably a top 10-7 back all time.

Again, being to young to watch the PPEs and Tark, he's my second favorite offensive player behind Cris Carter. For all of Moss's dazzling catches, there were very few things more exciting on a football field than watching Adrian run people over, spin out of a tackle, and break someone ankles all on the same play.

He will go down in Vikings lore as the 127th closest personal friend of Sid Hartman.

I've been watching football since '87. I would call Peterson the 3rd best pure runner I've seen behind Sanders and Bo.

The top 3 of all-time are still...

1. Barry Sanders
2. Jim Brown
3. Walter Payton

Adrian falls into the group with Emmitt, LaDainian Tomlinson, Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk.

I don't even think I'd put him in that group.

Peterson's inability to stay on the field on 3rd down and passing situations, despite being the most dangerous weapon we had on the team, severely hurts his overall ranking. In my opinion.

I agree with this for the most part. I don't mind grouping him with that 2nd tier, but if someone wants a more complete player over him I won't be against it.

Also too many costly fumbles in big games.
