Good signing for the Jets.

Can a Dallas fan update me on their CB situation now?

They have Orlando Scandrick and Anthony Brown (played well at times as a rookie). Outside of that? I have no clue.

Still, it is 100x better than the Eagles CB situation. Laughing

Would've liked to have Carr back as he is durable, decent in coverage and could be the bridge-player we need while we develop some new CBs. Claiborne was basically like not having a CB. He finally played like a first round talent in 2016, but as the case every year since he was drafted, he couldn't make it half a season due to injuries. The uncertainty with Mo was the reason we never really drafted too many CBs high. Coaches kept thinking "this is the year he'll put it all together". If he can stay on the field all year long, he'll be a steal at whatever he is being paid. Maybe a change of scenery will help Mo. But, after 5 years, I think Dallas made the right move.

To answer your question:
We've got Scandrick, Anthony Brown and Carroll-Island ( Laughing ) holding it down for right now. I think it's pretty clear that CB will be our target early and often in the draft (moreso than RDE). It's going to be an interesting 2017 season, as in it will probably get worse before it gets better, but overall, I'm glad we are getting rid of some of the guys that perpetually under-performed, weren't worth the money or couldn't stay on the field. 2017 may be a rough year, but comps picks have really piled up for 2018.

Nolan Carroll too. He isn't a plus pick up, but he's not any worse than Carr.

I think we'll be taking a corner in the first or second round.

Claiborne flashes well enough when he's on the field. But that's the thing, you can't depend on his health. Depending on the contract, not necessarily a bad gamble.

Our CB situation is pretty bad. Would have liked to bring back Carr.

Smh, great. Cowboys let him and Carr walk to sign sorry [inappropriate/removed] Nolan Carroll. The secondary is going to be a huge problem area in 2017 for Dallas. Can't field 4 rookie DB's and Carroll hoping to make a SB run.

Sorry man but you gotta put down the kool-aid. Carr is levels better than Carroll. Carroll is at best a #4 or 5 CB in the NFL and he'll probably be put in a starting role here. Expect teams to shred us apart this season. I can't stand losing 4 good secondary players and only guy we got is Carroll. Can't spend the first 3 picks in the draft on secondary even if you do that's not good.

To give a little context: the defense was middling-at-best with Carr, Claiborne and Church, now you'll be looking to draft their replacements with low picks.

Yeah, it's a pretty dire situation.

Appreciate the feedback. IIRC Bryon Jones at times plays at CB as well. I wasn't sure if there was a plan to move him to CB full-time and then have another pair of starting safeties because you had more depth there or something. Or if you would take a corner early. Sounds like the latter...

Byron Jones is an interesting case. We used him as mostly a corner in 2015 and he was "okay". He's freakishly athletic, but I didn't like him at CB. At FS, he's pretty good and rangy, but he just doesn't have the ball skills to make bad QB's pay. I really hope we don't throw him back at corner. This could be another situation like Tyrone Crawford where he gets ruined by switching back and forth between positions every year due to necessity.

Please just give Eli solid pass protection or even a competent one at that and we can really see what happens...

Maybe it's NFC East bias talking, but I think this signing is a bigger deal to the Cowboys than the Jets. Cowboys really need to hit on a rookie CB.
