Was a 7-year starter for them, but started seeing a reduced role last season. With the acquisition of Minter, he became expendable.

I always thought he was a somewhat underwhelming defender, but he should see a fit as a rotational or backup linebacker. He did have a lot of hype coming out, and many were shocked he dropped to the 2nd round (he was projected as a 1st round pick by most). What are Bengals fans' thoughts on him?

He's never been that good. Really just a run defender if you want to even call him that. Sucks in coverage

He had his best game of his career in the playoff game against the Steelers a couple of seasons ago. But sucked last year and rarely saw the field. He flip-flopped between average to bad with a sprinkle of a couple of good/great games here and there.

I'm glad we're finally getting rid of some mediocre to bad vets on the team. A year or two late, but at least it's finally happening...

I thought Rey Maualuga and Keith Rivers were going to be two solid linebackers for the Bengals for years to come. Both were taken out of USC in the 2008 and 2009 drafts with a first and second round pick. Unfortunate for Bengals fans.

I remember a game a couple years ago where the opposing team just picked on him play after play. He was like an obvious weak link in Cincy's defense.

I remember this guy was going to be a good 1, looks like that never materialized with the Bengals, wonder how he will do with another team.

I mean, he did start for a number of years. He's not trash. He's just not a fit for that defense anymore. At the time he was drafted, the league was transitioning into a passing league. 3&4 WR sets weren't as common as they are now, so Rey was used a lot, primarily as a 4-3 run stopping linebacker. In passing situations he would come occasionally.

Now the Bengals and the league use nickel as the base package. Rey just doesn't have the coverage chops to play LB in a 4-2-5. The LB's in that defense have to cover and play the run.

He should be able to find a job somewhere. He's not some train wreck on the field. I mean if Malcolm Smith is still employed...
