Do you think the abundence of 1 year deals is people playing the compensation pick game ?

It seems wrong that we get a comp pick for Jared Cook. I'd like to see it changed so that you only get a comp pick for losing players after their rookie contract. This would properly reward teams for drafting well.

In that sense someone like House is about the ideal contract. If he bombs then we don't lose much. If he has a career year and we can't re-sign we get a freebie pick.

Re our picks, its all very well saying we can happily sign 2 qualifying FA but presumably we aren't going to want to net out the Lang or Tretter picks. So what would be the ceiling we could spend without affecting our higher picks ?

I'm not sure that I can envision a scenario where House can't be re-signed. If he plays well and proves to be a solid #1 CB he could probably max out somewhere around 3/20 and there's no reason Green Bay shouldn't pay that IMO.

Probably up to 5 Million AAV without cancelling out Tretter's 5th Rd compensatory selection. You can probably sign almost anyone left to 5 Million AAV or less, the lone exclusion would be Hankins.

I think it's pretty clear cut that Hankins and Brown are the best fits. Devin Taylor could be a decent role player for us, but I don't see him playing DE unless he puts on about 20 lbs.

I'm bumping this to clear up any issues with Evans.

OTC has usually been rather slow in terms of updating. I'd be leery about using them as a source for now.

That's not the point. There's no way Evans alone can cost us a compensatory selection.

I will update OP when I get a chance.

It might not cost us a pick, but it could move the pick later. We're slotted to have one of the earliest (if not the earliest) 6th round compensatory picks for Jared Cook. If Evans gets significant enough money, it could move back a dozen spots or so.

First, let's be realistic about what Evans contract will look like. I'm 99% sure he will cancel out Peppers. Second, I never said he wouldn't count towards the compensatory formula... It's pretty clear that I was talking about UFAs signed vs UFAs lost from the beginning.
