TT and Dorsey are close enough buddies to have a conversation about Charles' medical reports. If Dorsey gives Charles a thumbs up, the Packers docs could check him out.

But remember: GB was without Lacy down the stretch in 2016 and Monty had both injury issues and sickle cell trait concerns. I can't see GB having another medical risk RB in 2017 with so much on the line. Need one durable guy to pair with Monty and I'm not sure Charles fits that description

You have a point there.
I guess in the back of my mind I keep thinking that Charles would be on more or less a minimum deal and he would compete for a roster spot against a rookie or two. I'm not looking to hand him a deal that would guarantee him a roster spot.

I'm in on Charles if he checks out. We're talking about forming a RB-by-committee approach, which works well for Charles at this point in his career.

Zero chance at a 4th. It's a probable 5th. I'm waiting for Cook's actual contract to be released (hopefully soon) before I update again because Lacy's contract started out projected as a 5th when the initial news broke and then dropped to a 6th after the actual numbers were revealed.

Yes. We could sign 2 Qualifying UFAs and still receive 4 compensatory selections in the 2018 draft. If we get the 2018 7th for McCray from the Bills that would give Ted 12 selections in 2018. I would say it's a virtual lock we receive that 7th because McCray was on the Bills roster for the entire 2016 season.

For anyone interested....

Here are OTC's Compensatory Predictions (They seemed to struggle, more than usual)

https://overthecap.com/projecting-2017-compensatory-draft-picks/

Here were the actual picks awarded for the 2017 NFL Draft.

http://www.sbnation.com/2017/2/24/14730418/compensatory-draft-picks-nfl-draft-2017-order

If someone wants to get a better read on the situation those two links might be a good place to start.

Doesn't make a difference. Most likely cancels out with Bennett, and we gain the Hyde compensatory pick back.

Here are the round-by-round projections for each team. Right now there are 32 qualifying picks. If a salary comes into this range, the last one will be bumped off.

Peppers and Datone are now our #5 and #6 FA losses, and I have removed any players on a team that are >4 in the loss 'pecking order'.

A note... older players can only net a 5th round or lower comp pick. That is why OverTheCap projects Whitworth as a 5th despite the $$.

Correct. That's exactly what they are projecting. Both would be our highest 5th, and therefore cancel.

Jared Cook 5 $6,100,000 252
Martellus Bennett 5 $6,750,000 213

If you lose a lot more than you gain don't they combine salaries? Like if we don't sign anyone else you still have the 5m per from Cook, and 3.5m per for both Peppers and Jones unaccounted for. Would they add that salary into a calculation and give us say a 3rd instead of a 4th?

No. Comp picks and/or salaries will NEVER combine.
