As per RapSheet:

https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/845260227561885697

If it's just to get cap relief and there's no guaranteed $ for 2018 (beyond the cap relief being spread out), I get it. If it's to lock him up for 2018...don't get it, for all the Fournette talk. RB's are so disposable, cutting bait just as their mileage adds up makes way more sense, and the miles are certainly getting up there for him.

Need to see the new #'s before judging, will be interesting to see if they are just spreading the $ out, or actually locking him into 2018 with guaranteed $.

He's been good but not great pretty much his whole career. Now that he's 30 I'm not sure what they expect to get out of him unless they intend on him being the 2 in a 1-2 punch with some rookie like Fournette

Stew is awesome. He can still run hard and the guy split carries for most of his career so he should have some legs left (like DeAngelo Williams). I expect we will take a RB in the first two days to platoon with him as he rides off into the sunset.

And I don't think J-Stew is super replaceable. He's one of the most punishing runners in the league. We want bruisers in the backfield and those aren't that easy to find.

Perine round 3 after you grab a DE and a S or TE

He's a decent keep for them, got to think though that they use a draft pick this year rather early to get a RB of the future though.

I feel like people are thinking this is a way bigger problem than it is. A very short term extension for a pretty decent back isn't like Carolina is mortgaging their future or changing their draft plans because of it

Are the Panthers still looking at taking a RB at 8? I'd imagine both Fournette and Cook will be available.

By all accounts, there is no way in the world we would pass up on Fournette if he was available at our pick. We also really like McCaffrey.

This move was done mainly to free up room. If this didn't happen and we took a RB in the draft, there is a chance Stewart would have been a June 1st cut.

Great for them. Most important player on that offense.
