Why do people keep harping on the weight?! Didn't Jerome Bettis successfully play at a high weight too?

One different era when it was acceptable for a running back to average 3.6 yards per carry and still get the ball 300 times. Two I don't think Bettis was ever that badly out of shape.

This. Bettis was in shape for his size. He could carry the rock 30 times a game if neccessary as the focal point of an offense with little need for breathers between. Lacy was MAYBE that as a rookie but has no capability to be so.

Super in shape man. Dude looks like an OG, cut it out.

I like this signing. I think he will get in good shape in Seattle and actually be very productive.

Lacy also has asthma and this could have been another reason why his carries were limited when he played for us.

I like Lacy as a player. But also laugh at the people who think he is going to remake himself.

He's not going to lose weight. He's going to keep eating. And if healthy, he will be a pretty good back. But still very injury prone.

I think it's been pretty obvious; his ankles can't handle his weight at the style he likes to run at.

I love Eddie Lacy, he's a naturally strong, big dude. His frame isn't that big (250+) though. Look at him in college... 225-230lbs is where he needs to be at to fully expose his potential.

And with that said, he's still a kid. Watch his interviews, he's not a very professional athlete. I personally did not mind that, but it's not really what you want for a NFL RB mentality who's already showed lack of effort towards professionalism.

Apparently there is a weight bonus clause in his contract. Laughing

I think for 375k.

It's not that unusual, to be honest.

That's 6.8% of his total contract with all bonuses. If my employer said I would lose 6.8% of my pay if I didn't stay under a certain weight, I might seriously not care enough Laughing

Id be curious to see if a RB has ever had weight incentives. Offensive or defensive linemen? Sure, that would be more common.

Yeah they do, and even receivers have weight clauses in their contract.

Andrew Brandt@andrewbrandt (former agent and NFL cap guru)

" See weight clauses in Lacy-Seattle deal. Learned not to do those, guys would sit clothed in sauna for hours on day before weigh-ins. Got depleted"

Easy solution: add a hydration level clause, test the athletes. Forces them to stay lighter the "right way".

I spoke with Eddie Lacy's brother last night and he said, yeah, he's heavy.
