The only reason why this news interests me - Chase Daniel has a 7m cap hit (5M of his 7M is guaranteed, and a 3M signing bonus last year, so 2M still due for 2017-18 ).
Basically Daniel saves nothing by getting cut - Eagles have to have some type of trade, or an injury to Daniel, to justify re-signing Foles. _________________

For sure, they save 5M if they can trade him. They save $0 if they cut him.
Only problem is 7M (his guaranteed salary) is pretty high for a backup. Gotta think he's headed to a QB-needy team, and likely on the cheap, given PHI only saves $ with a trade.
PHI could also convert more of the 5M into a bonus pre-trade to lessen the cap hit to the new team and take it themselves, and thus gain a higher draft pick - kinda like what CLE did by taking on the entire cap hit to get a 2nd rounder from HOU - not on the same scale, but if it helps them save some $, and get a pick, makes sense as well.
Without a trade, it's a puzzling move - but I think the more likely scenario is PHI trades him really cheap for a 6th-7th rounder to save the $5M, or they eat more of the $ by converting some of the salary to a signing bonus pre-trade (remember the team that acquires him pays 7M, Phi only saves 2M because of the remaining signing bonus).
Daniel's got to be excited, he certainly won't be starting anytime soon in PHI. _________________

He still might be better than Daniel though, and for a fraction of the price. |

So apparently Chase Daniel won’t be traded after all. The Philadelphia Eagles are going to release their 2016 backup quarterback on Monday, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Caplan:
The Eagles have been working to trade Daniel in recent days to a team that would benefit the veteran signal caller, but both sides felt the decision to release him now was mutually beneficial. The Eagles and Daniel's representatives will work on potentially adjusting his contract to benefit both parties.

Good pickup for the Eagles. Foles had his best yrs. with the Eagles. _________________ I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Now I can only stutter in Spanish.

We had interest and Foles was interested in signing with us. I'd guess he heard what we offered Glennon and wanted something similar. Oh well. We'll probably give Daniels a call. |

???
Didnt Foles say he was happy to be out of Philly when he left? Maybe he just meant that particular regime under Chip Kelly, but I swore he was a little insulting towards Philly when he left.
Either way, not a bad signing, I guess. He can be decent in spot duty. _________________

The thing is, unless Daniels agrees to take a pay cut on his 5M guaranteed salary before release, the Eagles save no $ with Daniel.
Daniel must want a chance to compete badly enough he's willing to walk away from 5M guaranteed this year. Of course, if he takes a 2M pay cut and takes the 3M left as a signing bonus, then any $ he gets from another team he recoups.
What's crazy is that the Eagles took on 7M of guaranteed money with Foles. In addition to the 2M they for sure still owe Daniels from last year's 3M bonus...and there's the matter of the 5M guaranteed salary. Is Foles really that much of an upgrade over Daniel? Guess we need to know what restructure is done before we can answer that, but weird decision.
What I'm rooting for...is for KC to sign Daniel. Then KC will have Daniel, PHI will have Foles. Like they did in 2015. _________________

Foles got 2 years, 11M, 7M guaranteed.
Daniel had 7M left guaranteed this year, 7M salary (5M guaranteed).
That fraction in terms of guaranteed $ is 100 percent. And actually more, if you factor in that Eagles have to pay the guaranteed $ to Daniels with a release. _________________

Quote: | Sounds like they will come to some agreement where they'll get more cap space back. According to BGN Eagles had a trade in place but not for a team he wanted to go to so he'll give some $ back to get cut and control where he goes. |
We'll see. _________________

Daniel was set for a cap hit of 8 million this year. Cutting him means we have a cap hit of 7 million.
So, we actually save 1 million. I mean its close to nothing though. |
