The Cowboys will have another hole to fill. Right tackle Doug Free has informed the team he intends to retire,... http://es.pn/2nqDVKX

We rag on him, but for a 4th rder he did pretty well. Can't say I'll miss him but this does create another hole. Pretty big one too. I haven't much faith in Chaz staying healthy. Cleary looked ok last season, but probably isn't a long term solution.

Creates $5m in cap space.

I'm guessing they will probably address this in the draft. Green was solid when he played but like you said he is injury prone.

For a 4th round pick the guy had a solid career. I wish him well. I think we were looking at a T at some point in the draft. This just intensifies the need.

Was slipping towards the end, but had a solid overall career with us. We'll have to address this in the draft more so than before. I haven't seen enough to believe in Chaz Green yet.

Popular whipping boy here, but the idea that you can do better than him for $5M has been pretty thoroughly invalidated by the types of contracts we've seen go to the likes of Mike Remmers and Matt Kalil this offseason. Think the savings are more likely to go towards our secondary and some depth pieces than a big name replacement RT. Not supposed to be a great draft for OTs, either. A definite concern.

As for Free, I'm glad he made the right decision for himself, his family, and his health. A 10 year career in the NFL is not an easy thing for anyone to accomplish.

Good.

We have a big hole there now. So it's like he isn't leaving at all. We can get the same production from a swinging saloon door that occasionally grabs the jersey of the patrons and blatantly holds them.

Will miss you...

There's gifs of Matt Kalil with the Vikings that look wildly similar to those, and he just got $11M/yr

Offensive tackle is just in a bad state league wide

If only DF made this decisions a few years ago... Romo would probably be healthy and who knows how many more playoff games we would have won. Good riddance.

Huh.

Kinda sucks...imagine we'll look at bringing in a free agent RT since Green hasn't seen the field. Probably look to draft one as well.

It's not time to get emotional now. Do I need to bump every "GB/ Jock strap" thread for that last 3 years? No one has more jock straps than Free.

No one.

This forum has made Doug Free so synonymous with jock straps that if you google image either, a picture of both will appear.

He caused Dak to fumble at least 3 times last year.

The guy from Seattle that broke Romo's back and caused him to scramble? Lined up across Doug Free.

THE PENALTIES IN THE FCKN PLAYOFF GAME!! FROM OUR MOST VETERAN OL!!??

Gtfo Doug Free....

This is a ff.com celebration.
