My favorite part is that he is not Pettigrew!

I like this more than I would have signing Cook.

This guy is HUGE. 6'7, 281-pounds..... Maybe this is the year we can actually run the ball...

Quinn wants to run the ball. He is not built for futility he doesn't come from futility he knows how to win and the steps it takes to get there. That is what he brings from N.E. he will fix this problem. We have had other GM's but none with the knowledge and the commitment and dedication that Quinn comes with. We are blessed to have him. Fells on that note is a great signing a smart signing. Look at the majority of the big splash high dollar FA teams and they do not usually have the pedigree of the teams who stand pat and get the most out of their staff and personnel and invite in the players who have the talent and those organizations bring out the most in those players. Brady is the greatest but when younger and impressionable would he have been the same if he would have been developed for a back up spot no but the Pats got the absolute best out of him and that potential and development turned into greatness now is that always the case no but at the same time they get each players greatness out of them and that can be more important that pure athleticism or individual skill. Fells falls under that. Maximize what that players best attributes are and let him flourish. I.E. Kyle VanNoy. Quinn is writing this ship and Players like Wagner, Fells, Washington, Spence, and Hayden are a mold of player he is bring in. Fells has a very good sense of the offensive line seeing as he is as much if not more of a part of that as a TE. He has blocked for one of the best pure all around RB's in the NFL in Johnson.

FWIW PFF rated him #3 in pass pro and #17 in run blocking amongst TEs last year, so this is more likely not about the running game.

Yeah, He's okay against the run but is more adequate in pass protection. He helps in the blocking game, like Cook would have.

This is my favorite move so far. Cheap player that can instantly become a #2 TE for us and improve the blocking on both fronts. He's not a terrible receiver either.

also FWIW I doubt the Lions are reading what PFF says

He's basically a faster Brandon Pettigrew. Great blocker, don't expect him to put up great stats as a receiver.

Since PFF got bought out, I would bet that there are teams that use their advanced stats.

He's a better blocker than Cook? And he is much cheaper.

I believe they got him for his run blocking, pass blocking, receiving skills, and experience. So...yes?

Most teams likely use their own advanced stats and metrics considering they employ people for that sole purpose.
