All they really need now on offense is a RB. Maybe if you can get an upgrade on the interior offensive line as well.

I'd like for the Pats to draft a TE as well.

Edelman
Hogan
White
Allen
Cooks
Mitchell
Lewis

Hahahahah. Good luck stopping our offense, NFL. Got a feeling Belichick isn't done yet, wait until he gets a haul for Jimmy G.

Very excited about Cooks.

Just wait

Lewis/White backfield

Cooks, Gronk, Edelman and Hogan out there. Who does the defense cover?

Well, if all those guys are on the field at the same time, the defense won't have to cover since the Pats will only have 4 OL on the field. Should make their job of getting to Brady much easier.

The way he worded it it's Lewis or White on the back field. So we do have 5 linemen. Wink

I assume Lewis/White means one or the other which would leave 5 linemen and Gronk

The slash when used as a conjunction is a substitute for the word "or" meaning option one or option two, but not both options one and two.

Murts you're the fiercest debater I've ever seen on any message board but you don't have to go down swinging on this one. People make mistakes once in a while. It's ok. Just fall gracefully Laughing

Not a matter of making a mistake - the slash is often used to separate groups of players you are envisioning playing next to each other or at the same time. That goes across all sports. For example, I would often read:

"In a 3 WR set, I want Edelman/Hogan/Mitchell" as "I want all 3 guys on the field at once" not "I want one or the other(s)"

I would read:

"At guard should be Thuney/Mason, with Solder/Cannon at tackle" as "The guards should be Thuney and Mason, Solder and Cannon play tackle"

"The secondary is Butler/Gilmore and McCourty/Chung/Harmon" as "Butler, Gilmore, McCourty, Chung, Harmon are all on the field simultaneously"

Works the same in other sports:

"The Bruins should roll with Belesky/Bergeron/Marchand" means "All 3 together" not "I want Belesky or Bergeron or Marchand"

"The Sox have Young/Betts/Moreland in the outfield" means (to me) that all three are playing. Not one of three is playing.

Furthermore, the idea of a 2 back set with Lewis/White together has been bandied about frequently on this board the past 2 years. It seems reasonable to assume that "Lewis/White backfield" could mean "a backfield with both" in the absence of additional context.

To use a non-sports example, if you were helping your friend move and you saw a cardboard box with "Pots/Pans/Dishes" written on it, would you assume that the box has Pots and Pans and Dishes? Or one of the three sets of items?

In proper grammar, using a slash to mean "and" is a no no (at best, it can be used for "and/or" but that's pretty sloppy writing if you're going for anything academic or formal). But when you're listing personnel groupings or sports lineups, it's a frequently used way of separating guys who are playing together.

I understand why nextsuperstar was being pedantic - the intention of the post is quite obvious. I'm sure he understood the colloquial nature of young juice's post, I'm sure he understood why I made the joke I made, and I'm sure he understands that "/" is often used to separate groups of players who are playing together.

Haha, this is too much discussion about slashes.
