It takes a lot of guys that extra year for their knee to get right. And by all accounts he was playing through knee pain most of last year, which can't help. I would assume our Dr's cleared him and another year removed from his injury he could get back to his old self.

Again, it's not that I dislike the signing, it's worth the risk. I really hope the guy plays at a high level. I'm just worried about the line if he doesn't. Hopefully Mac adds a center in the draft to compete with Wes.

Really hope most of that money is upfront, because I don't think we're ever going to see him return to his pre-injury days. With the money LT's have been getting in this market ESPECIALLY Kalil, it's an OK signing but it really makes the Ijalana signing more curious.

Only a $5 million cap hit this season. The deal is pretty much a 2 year $14M contract. Great job Macc.

Love it.

For the price Rieff Whitworth Okung and Kalil got this is amazing value. If we can get Elflein in the 3rd this line has a lot of longterm potential.

Good signing and deal assuming he stays healthy. These are the kind of moves we should be making

Not that it matters because he's cheap, but not the most team friendly deal.

Per Darryl Slater:
Quote:
Basics: Three years, $24 million maximum value

Signing bonus: $4.5 million

Roster bonus: $2 million

Total guarantee: $12 million

2017: $1.5 million salary, $5 million salary cap figure

2018: $8 million salary, $9.5 million salary cap figure, $7 million dead money

2019: $8 million salary, $9.5 million salary cap figure, $1.5 million dead money

So if he's not good this year, we're stuck with him next year.

Also:
Quote:
His 2019 year can void if he makes the Pro Bowl in either 2017 or 2018, and is on the Jets' roster the day after the 2018 season's Super Bowl.

So let's hope he plays at a pro bowl level, but doesn't make the pro bowl.

Can't knock it. At least the Jets did something so they're not pressured into overdrafting a prospect. It doesn't stop them from adding prospects in the draft to develop.

I don't mind the Jets being conservative when it comes to most of the positions they could spend money on, but if the OL is terrible along with the running game and receiver options, it's a wasted opportunity to see what they have at the QB position. I want the foundation of the offense to be the priority this year.

Considering the money that all the other tackles got, I don't get how you can't be thrilled with this contract. The deals for Beachum and Winters show how well Macc has becoming at reading the market.

this is the best deal we were going to get to sign Beachum. It's not like this is an attractive landing spot right now. Even if we're stuck with him next year it's not going to kill us. We shouldn't be maxing the cap for another year or so anyways. It's a good deal for both players and he'll realistically never win here and still took the deal. We can't complain about the structure at all.

This is a typical Maccagnan deal. Sign a player in which can get out after 2 years without much dead money. If Beachum totally tanks the expected 2018 cap hit would be $7mil. So what. No big deal. Not my money being spent. I prefer to think positive thoughts than be a pessimist.

With all the money that's been going out, that's a great deal. He's still young enough to get better as well, so I can't complain at all. Our whole oline is in the same age group.

Any word on the blocking scheme we're going with under Morton?

Initial rumor is a ZBS, which worries me with Carpenter, so I hope not.

Agreed. At worst he doesn't work out as a starter and becomes a reserve, but if we draft his replacement the amount of money allocated to the LT position is still below average, which is important - money to use elsewhere.

Now all we need is a QB.
