Don't have numbers yet on Riley Reiff's deal with #Vikings, but am told it'll stack up well vs. other huge OL deals today. They paid up.

Can't say the Vikes didn't try. Reiff, like Kalil and Okung will be overpaid but it's the only option to get Clemmings or Sirles off the field. Need to start drafting better.

Hard to say, but Kalil hasn't been healthy in at least two years....

If they keep Reiff at RT, I'm good with this. If they move him to LT long term, I'll be nervous about it....

Perhaps have him play LT until a draft pick is groomed for the job? Also, if we have a quick-passing game offense, he should work out fine.

He better not have gotten more than Wagner. That alone will upset me.

If he ever steps foot in the LT position we are screwed. He is a RT and a RT only.

Can't believe the contracts Kalil and Okung got. Sheer madness.

Reiff, who was a first-round pick for the Lions in 2012, started 69 games for the Lions in his five seasons in Detroit. He has played both left and right tackle in the NFL. Last year, he was their starter at right tackle after they drafted left tackle Taylor Decker in the first round.

For what it’s worth, and if you asked coach Mike Zimmer he’d probably say not much, Reiff has never ranked as one of the top 25 offensive tackles in the NFL based on Pro Football Focus grading. Playing left tackle in 2013-15, he ranked 42nd, 38th and 29th, respectively. Last season, his first at right tackle, he ranked 48th among all offensive tackles.

Riley Reiff was rated by PFF at LT as 75.2, 70.5, 75.3, 77.5 and 67.5 at RT.

I found that interesting.

Interesting fact about Reilly Reiff: He is not TJ Clemmings.

A+

The Lions moved the ball pretty darn well last year, both on the ground and in the air. I am confident that this signing is a significant upgrade for us. While he might not be a dominating RT, he's consistent. That's what we need.

I just re-watched Spielman's interview with Paul Allen at the Combine. A little scary the way he went on and on about some linemen needing 4-5 years to start playing good. Said Clemmings was playing good at right tackle before being forced into playing left tackle. Gave me goosebumps.

I don't know if this was directed at me or just in general Laughing

I basically was posting this to show it's an upgrade at LT or RT.

Throwing out 2016, with Reiff at RT and Kalil hurt.

Kalil's PFF grades at LT,
2012 - 62.1
2013 - 44.0
2014 - 20.9
2015 - 47.1

Reiff's PFF grades at LT,
2012 - 75.2
2013 - 70.5
2014 - 75.3
2015 - 77.5

Reiff isn't an all star by any means, but he's reliable, and he's consistent.

That's pretty big deal compared to what we had last year.
Like I said, not a huge fan of Reiff, but he is a LARGE improvement of what we have had at LT these past few years.

PFF offensive line grades must be pretty terrible then, because Kalil was an absolute STUD in 2012.
