Can someone explain the cap hit in stupid terms. I thought the one link said Perry would see 20 million in the 1st year. But I see his base is like 1.5 this year. So what gives? Is the majority of that 20 made up of incentives?

Nick gets paid his whole signing bonus up front, so he made 18.5m today, however we can spread that over 5 years so his cap hit is base salary + signing bonus /5 + whatever workout/roster bonuses he will have.

Perry is a better player than Jones and only slightly worse than Vernon. We really did get a deal that is a crazy bargain with this cap constantly rising.

I didn't realize signing bonus's could be spread out over 5 years.

Thanks everyone

Now lets get Cook, Lang, Lacy, House, and Peppers done.

If this comes to pass you'll get no complaints from me.

Aw f- yeah.

Last three days (even maybe dating back to last week), I'd log on 37x a day at work, hoping to see this thread title. Massive relief/load off my shoulders Laughing

Fun way to kick off the opening to free agency! Best player on the market IMO.

Heck, he was raising havoc even wearing that huge club on his hand!

Here’s something to consider: #Packers have $25M / year tied up in their two OLBs. They combined for 18 sacks in 19 games last season.

Clay has been put on notice
Clay shouldn't be an OLB anymore. Shouldn't have been last year. His best position for this team is ILB. Honestly though, I wish we had just cut ties with him and used the cap space somewhere else. Clay hasn't been an impact player for years, at least not at OLB.

Didn't McCoach hint that we'll move Clay around next year?

We already do.

The player gets the money up front, but for the accounting for the salary cap, it is prorated for the length of the contract up to a max of 5 years.

I'm leery of this signing. I will have no problem if he stays healthy, but that's IF he stays healthy.

What? Lol, this is one of the best deals we've ever signed for a player considering he takes up very little in salary cap space.

I'm scared to say I'm with NC. If I was a betting man (I am) I would bet he doesn't live up to this deal. But I'm hoping I'm wrong. I didn't want Pep or Cook. I've been a fan of Perry since young USC days so this is a bit different. If he can be what he was last year consistently, it'll be a home run.

People are tweeting and Reddit posting all over that 20.8 is his cap hit because it's what he gets this year...lol. I tried to explain it a couple times and got down voted and gave up.

Didn't I block you last night?

I'm confident in Perry's ability... the only thing that can potentially derail his career at this point is injury.
