I'm just looking at the money being spent around the league and I'm shaking my head. It's crazy.

Reinforces for me the notion that the draft has to be the foundation of your club. Lock up the guys you've drafted who have performed well. Use free agency to augment your draft.

I don't recall championships being won in March.

Question. Is out cap situation impacted any differently if we trade Romo vs a release of Romo?

Matts could tell you better than I could, but I think the only real difference is we can designate him a June 1 cut and save more money this year by spreading the hit out over two years. Otherwise I think it should save us the same amount if we cut him vs trade him

Correct. Trading him =$9m less this year but $9m more next year

how does it work if Romo is a post June first cut for the other team? Can they sign him, but have to wait till he can start practicing? wouldn't a team therefor want him in as early as possible?

didn't want to make another thread about Romo, but when it's all said and done, what team is Romo on next year. Houston or Denver?

also, am I the only one on 'pins and needles' waiting for final results on Romo?

Its 5 am. I woke up to pee and then realized i needed to check for news. Is that pins and needles enough?

Not as bad as having a phone by the bad to check during every waking moment checking for updates Shocked Confused Very Happy

Cutting June 1 is an accounting term. It has no effect on him signing with another team. It is simply how we deal with his cap on the ledger books.

Yup

Post June 1 is just a designation because players used to get F'd over by teams actually waiting till June 1 to cut players for the cap benefit

By then all the jobs and all the money was gone for a guy to be a new Free Agent

This makes it a level playing field for all players

Fox Sports would like to replace John Lynch with....Tony Romo, per sources. Other networks also interested. Romo's goal remains to play

Would not be surprised if this is end result.

Dallas needs to play hard ball. They can always release Romo. I believe the longer teams (Denver, Houston another?) realize that their own QBs are bad, someone will step up.

How long will the Texans play hard ball? Nobody actually believes that they will start the season with Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden as the only 2 QBs. Pretty sure thats why JJ is waiting. If the draft doesn't fall their way, and they don't get a starting caliber QB in a weak class, then they aren't in position to play hard ball. The blood will be in the water.

Romo would do well on TV, I think.

Following up on the cap questions. Cap wise, how does retirement differ from a cut/June 1 cut?

And does anyone have the current cap space after these signings, off hand?
