You really think a linebacker who'd see 25% of the defensive snaps is worth more than a starting running back and rotational defensive lineman, where if history tells us anything, will see between 40%-50% of the snaps?

Just because our previous bad 3rd LB saw a low snap count, doesn't mean an actually good LB that fits our needs would see an equal snap count.

Practically all snaps given to Murray could have been given to a RB rookie (deep RB class). Jones will see some snaps, but the lion's share is going to Griffen/Hunter/Robison.

There is more then enough history between the Bengal and Viking years to judge that it is not important to a Zimmer defense to put much investment in that third LB.

You do remember that we had two RBs that became free agents Peterson and Asiata even in a deep class we weren't going use two draft picks on RBs.

I didn't say anything about spending 2 draft picks on RBs.

I think you need 3 reliable linebackers simply due to injury insurance.

We already lost Munnerlyn and despite his coverage flaws he was a very sound tackler. Same thing goes with Greenway.

Teams already appear to run on us fairly easy and I know I certainly have questions about how we will hold up next season if Kendricks or Barr miss any games.

And they tend to get banged up with injuries constantly, or not play at full health, etc.

Chris Tomasson @christomasson
Rick Spielman said Adrian Peterson definitely won't be back with Vikings

Oh, Rick! You get us every year with one of your classic smokescreens.

If that were a smokescreen, that'd be the greatest one he's ever pulled. Laughing

Obviously that's why Murray didn't take 28

What's the word on Mo Claiborne? I think he'd be a solid add that could benefit with a year as the No. 5 CB learning under Zimmer/Newman.

Looks like he's signed with the Jets.

The Cowboys didn't have a great defense to begin with, and they've now lost Brandon Carr as well, since he's going to the Ravens.

Wish list:

Austin Pasztor
DeAndre Levy
Lardarious Webb

Do that and, in addition to the other FA signing, you've shorn up all your major needs and can head into the draft without having to force anything.

I don't think they have enough cap room. One more medium signing maybe but they've spent alot.

They were at 27M after the Jones signing, so after signing Newman and Murray they should still have 20+ left right?

Levy isn't going to cost much and nether will Pasztor, probably around a combined 9M. Don't know what Webb is gonna cost em.

If we can afford it I like that wish list.

Is Jelani Jenkins still out there? Haven't heard anything about him but I'd take a run at him as a 3rd LB who can potentially play more than just 30% of snaps if he's healthy.

I'd still like to see Vikes make a run at Michael Floyd as well. WRs clearly not getting big money and he's at least been a good player in the past. Has baggage yes but it seems like a "low-risk, high-reward" type move Spiels has pulled before.

Is Verner still out there and can he play in the slot?

Is draft pick cap room figured into that number?

I'm surprised that Pasztor is still out there. He's got versatility, starting experience and he is young. I know he isnt a very good starter but you'd think he would have a new team by now. I would take Pasztor as well, I think he could be a potential day one starter at RG or RT, depending upon where Remmers ends up. At the very least, Pasztor could potentially replace Sirles. Though, there probably isnt much difference between the two.
