In years past, we all knew the Vikes had to get that starter with the 1st Rd pick, and yet, under Spielman and Zimmer, they've taken guys that needed grooming in the system. To me, that's worked and we're starting to see quality young starters and depth needed to win . . . the Vikes lacked that depth under Frazier and in 2010-2012, and it was even worse under Denny Green going into Tice's tenure.

This year, it's a total crapshoot picking so late, but the Vikes have 5 picks on day 2 - exciting. There is justification to take best player available, regardless of position. However, my feelings are the Vikes take a big with the 2nd Rnd pick . . . OG or DT. Here are my two preferred options:

A) 2nd Rnd - Chris Wormley, DT, Michigan . . . may be better suited for DE in a 3-4 alignment, but I think he'd fit right in at UT/3-tech just like Kevin Williams.
3rd Rd - Isaac Asiata, OG, SDSU
3rd Rd - Donte Foreman, RB, TX . . . We all saw what happened when Adrian was suspended and injured. I love McKinnon, but he's not an every down guy. The Vikes really don't have 4 quality RBs who can be "next man up".
4th Rd - Howard Williams, CB . . . he's climbing draft boards.
4th Rd - Vince Biegel, OLB . . . good solid prospect.
5th Rd - Kenny Golladay, WR . . . intriguing measurables, but don't know much about him.

B) 2nd Rd - Dan Feeney, OG, Indiana
3rd Rd - Jalen Myrick, CB, MN (he may be available later, why risk it?)
3rd Rd - Joe Mixon, RB, OK
4th Rd - Demarcus Walker, DE/DT (fits the rotational type)
4th Rd - Vince Biegel, OLB
5th Rd - Kenny Golladay, WR

The position I feel I've neglected is Center. I'm not sure how it shakes out there, but I could also see the Vikes going with Elfein or Pocic in Rd 2, followed up by a player like Elija Qualls, DT in Rd 3 . . . Or, if TJ Watt's available in Rd 2 . . . Laughing

6th and 7th Rounds are wildcard picks . . . could be K, P, QB and Safety, maybe more O-line if guys like Aviante Collins are available. I do believe in the UDFA process and am curious how much interest the Vikes have shown in prospects lumped into that group. I few guys I'd like to see get a chance are:

- Gabe Marks, WR, WSU (if he slips this far)
- Zach Johnson, OG, NDSU
- Jimmie Gilbert, OLB, Colorado
- Michael Davis, CB, BYU
- Jordon Simmons, OG, USC (appears to be quite injury prone)

Day 2 consists of rounds 2 and 3, we'll have 3 picks on day 2.

I thought that was the case when I read his post, but I wasn't sure if that had maybe changed and I wasn't aware of it. Wink

Just using Gil Brandt's top 150 (he's been one of the most accurate in terms of having his top 100 players drafted in the top 100 according to the huddle report. Here's a quick little mock through round four.

2.47 - Dan Feeney [G] Indiana (#50)
3.79 - Alvin Kamara [RB] Tennessee (#79)
3.86 - Caleb Brantley [DL] Florida (#101)
3.101 - Taylor Moton [OL] Western Michigan (#108 - Trade 4.120 + 4.128)

Is Feeney expected to go before Moton? I would definitely prefer Moton.

He's generally ranked higher, yeah.

Agree. Both have been dropping down the boards but Moton has generally dropped further than Feeney. Moton ranked higher several months ago, but Feeney surpassed him awhile ago. I've seen Dawkins and Dorian Johnson all ranked higher than Moton as well. While I'd be okay with Moton, I'd definitely take Feeney before him and might even consider Dawkins before him as well.

Man just reading throught the last few pages you can tell this forum is pretty split on a lot of different things as far as needs/wants in the draft. Should make Friday night and Saturday morning pretty interesting on here

there really isn't a position where a 2nd/3rd round pick would be a terrible pick.

QB - nobody knows about Teddy, Bradford's contract is up after this year, need a backup
RB - obviously need to add another RB
WR - lost Johnson and Patterson, Treadwell didn't do anything
TE - lost Ellison, Rudolph has an injury history
T - need a #3 OT or someone to challenge Remmers
G - need a starter at RG
C - Berger might be needed at RG, Easton is an unknown
DT - Floyd is probably done, need a starting 3T
DE - Everson is getting older, Robison is done after this year, need depth
LB - need a starting WLB to replace Greenway
CB - this will be Newman's last year, lost Munnerlyn
S - could use an upgrade over Sendejo or depth

Huh? Early Feeney was ranked as the #1 overall interior lineman. I've never seen Moton ranked higher.

Feeney a couple months ago was an easy lock for a 1st round pick.. I still see no way he last until #48.

If we could trot out an opening lineup of Reiff - Boone - Easton - Feeney - Remmers, that would be nice

4/5 new starters

You must be looking elsewhere than I have, because I've never seen, at any point, Feeney ever being considered a 1st round pick. He's always been a 2nd round pick as far as the places I've seen. It was only the question of where Forrest Lamp was going to be selected, as he's always been #1 since I've been looking (which was probably sometime in early February).

What honestly makes him any better or different than Clemmings. Clemmings is a better athlete and they both came with the same issues in college except Davenport played at a lower level?

He is my stay away guy from this draft.

That's fine and I respect your opinion, I know you're one of the people around here who does their own scouting but I have to disagree.

I never liked Clemmings as a prospect, I've said this before here and I think we've had this exact conversation before earlier this year but I remember when a lot of people around here were touting Clemmings as a possible 1st round choice and I wasn't happy saying thats way too early for a OG and thats exactly what I viewed Clemmings as coming out and I've seen absolutely nothing from his play to change my opinion. Now for Davenport I see an OT who needs some grooming, maybe thats not something our team can do but that doesn't change the fact that I see a player who can be a good future OT in this league.
