The Titans re-signed backup QB Matt Cassel. He'll have a big offseason role with Marcus Mariota out until camp.

Well, that's one need down I suppose.

Understandable. No real clear cut better option.
Some guys that are reasonable to think would be upgrades but all are "eh."

He did a serviceable job in the last game. I think that is what gives the comfort in re-signing him.

Yeah chances of finding someone who can win playoff games if Marcus goes down is pretty much 0, but Cassel is good enough to start a regular season game or two if need be.

Hopefully we don't see any backup QB for anything other than mop up duty next season though.

Blah, hopefully for the first time in his pro career Mariota plays 16+ games. Pray

I think we'll end up drafting a QB at some point.

I'm okay with it. Seems to have a good relationship with Marcus and helps him out a lot during the week from what I heard.

I could see us taking a chance on a QB late in the draft to come in and learn the system. Matt doesn't have many years left in that arm. Rather get a young guy in here and get a jump on everything.

Matt Cassel's new contract with #Titans is for two years, I'm told.

I don't think we draft a QB. We gave Tanney a raise to stay on our practice squad last season and resigned Cassell. I think we are very happy with our QB depth.

I don't understand people and the negative responses towards this. We have a 23 year old starting QB. The last of our worries is adding youth as a backup QB.

If anything, you want a guy who understands he is done as a starter and is devoted to helping the starter succeed, as well come in week 17 against a division rival and win a game.

Both backups are already familiar with the offense. I have no problem with our QB situation staying the same way for the next 2-3 years.

Andrew Luck should be our Backup! Smile

The #Titans signed QB Matt Cassel to a 2-year extension worth $5.25M, source said. The 34-year-old gets $2.75M in 2017

It's slow so might as well try to create some conversation but should the Titans have waited on signing a backup? I get Cassels a Vet but I feel the Titans should of went younger and someone that can actually move a little. Barkley looked good against us I would of given him a look and then Foles and now Daniels will come available I just feel the Titans should have waited

Granted we all hope Mariota plays all 16 for once it's just hard to believe he ever will. The frustrating part about almost all our QB injuries in recent years have all come from inside the pocket

If Marcus wasn't going to miss OTAs we might have attempted to sign someone else, but we needed a QB for OTAs that knows the system well and can act as the #1 QB during that stretch.

I think they went for reliable over anything else with the backup. I'm not the biggest fan of him, but hoping that we won't need to see him play much other than some late game hand offs.
