So they must have counted the full Okung contract against Malik. Well, that blows.

This is about as worst case as I thought the comp picks could go. Well, life goes on. We still have a pretty good stable of picks.

Really wish I held off on making my most recent mock draft lol

Damn that really sucks Okung deal counted in its entirety. If we missed out because we didn't void the deal soon enough then even bigger mistake. Oh well what's done is done.

I always had a feeling that they would include the deal in its entirety. Signing Okung type deals could have become a way for teams to snag players long term, then void them when their play drops off, try to claim the deal should only be looked as X investment and expect a draft pick. It just sorta seems like a work around that the NFL wasn't gonna let slide.

Shouldn't we have received something for Osweiler? I know he wasn't much but he did start at QB for 16 games including playoffs.

The formula used to award compensatory picks is a mystery. The formula is supposedly based on three factors -- player salary, playing time, and "postseason honors". But the details are hidden and the committee can arbitrarily change their rules at any time. The only firm rule is that a maximum of 32 picks can be awarded.

If salary was the determining factor, then losing Osweiler to a team that gave him the biggest free-agent contract should mean that the Broncos get the highest compensatory pick, right? But Okung's contract might have counter-balanced that loss. Who knows...

----
With the compensatory picks, the complete Broncos draft will be:
1.20
2.19
3.18
3.37 (compensatory)
4.20
5.34 (compensatory)
6.19 (from Tennessee)
7.20
7.34 (compensatory)
7.35 (compensatory)

This stinks! This is total BS!

The vast majority of the media really don't have a clue what they're talking about.

I wasn't aware of the 32 pick limit. I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. One team getting 12.5% of the available picks has to be uncommon/

In my view one the most under rated comedy shows of all time. Exceptional writing up until Niles and Daphne got together then it was all down hill.

The Okung thing is a double-whammy, not only does it do is out of a pick this year, but he'll count as a cut player and not a lost FA for next year.
