Dolphins will be releasing LT Branden Albert today, source says. It's Tunsil time there. Adds an intriguing option to the tackle market.

Good LT but nagging injuries the past couple seasons. Worst game was in the playoffs against the Steelers, he looked broken down.

This move will save a net $7.2 million against the cap, including dead money charge of $3.4 million.

This should facilitate a OG being selected Day 2, if a good option isn't had in FA.

I don't think they'll cut Mitchell, but then again I didn't think they'd cut Albert this year either Laughing

This move makes me think of 2 things:

1. It's more of a desire to get Tunsil over to LT than anything else. They legitimately think he can be the best in the game over there, so why put it off any longer?

2. Is the addition of someone like Kevin Zeitler now more of a possibility? Or would the next tier of OGs be more likely in Warford, Lang, or Leary? OG was always an area of need, but now it's critical to get at least one starting caliber OG in free agency.

Agreed whole-heartedly.

Zeitler is obviously a fantastic OG but he's going to set the market. Dolphins can afford it though.

I don't want Warford. He's not mobile. He's a plodding power guy.

You're right. I thought he shed a bunch of weight but it was someone else.

I don't think dropping over 6M per year for an OG is a great idea. I'd go after the Tier 2 guys in FA, then a talented faller in the 2nd or 3rd round. I like Danny Isidora out The U. No one really talks about him, but I'm not sure if he'll make it to Round 5.

This will hurt us for the 3 games per year he would've played.

I'm not locked into going straight after the shiniest OG in FA. But outside talent definitely needs to be brought in.

Leary is also going to get P-A-I-D, as a RG most likely.

It's certainly not ideal, but Miami can't bank on someone falling into their laps in the 2nd or 3rd round. They have to get at least one guaranteed, bona fide starter at OG in FA. If they feel they can get one from the Tier 2 guys, great. If they have to pony up for one of the big names? Do it. With all the cap space cleared today, the money is certainly available and it may not be better spent than by shoring up a huge weakness.

ESPN is reporting that both Albert and Mitchell will be cut. With this much space I'm expecting us to make a run at a top FA, as well as extending Landry to a long term deal.

Finally: The word is the Dolphins are again thinking trade as a way to land a big-name corner. Stay tuned.

Unless it's a nickel corner or one just as good as Maxwell for cheaper, meh.

Maxwell / Lippett / Howard collectively count only $10.56m against the cap for 2017 and they are all viable boundary corners.
