Interesting hire... the Jags linebacker corp have been decent. Any thoughts?

Dregs of the league migrating through osmosis to the 49ers.. such a hodge podge of hires.

So will they remain in the 3-4 since he was just their LB coach?

I'm confused.

I think there's a good chance they go to a 4-3. Saleh came with Gus Bradley from Seattle... so he's a pretty grounded 4-3 guy I think.

I'd imagine that's the case, but never know really. A lot of the stuff they were seemingly trying to do LBer-wise was starting to look more 3-4ish. Or at least that seemed to be what the idea behind that whole "OTTO" thing was. Though it's hard to tell, as in reality it mainly just manifested as an insistence on playing Dan Skuta, while Myles Jack sat on the bench.

Though of course, who really knows how much of that was Gus/Wash/etc., more than just the LBers coach.

Kind of feels like those reports on Kyle Shanahan after Washington might be true.(hire inexperienced friends because they won't challenge him)

Interesting hire. If I'm the 49ers I think I'd go for someone with a bit more experience than this guy.

100% agree. These hirings feel completely random and questionable at best.

I don't know much about Saleh. It could be that the reports about Shanny are true, but let's not forget that his options are extremely limited due to his late start. I would imagine we'll see some turnover next offseason when he can get in on all of the available coordinators- position coaches as soon as the season ends. Hopefully that's not the case, because that would mean we are happy with the guys we initially brought in, but that is what I expect.

There were a few other people mentioned as possibilities, but I don't know who all was actually interviewed. There was talk for a while of co-defensive coordinators even. There were never any big names thrown into the ring.

Given the late start though, I'm not totally surprise that the staff is kind of "who's that, what's that"

Most of us believe that we will be moving to a 4-3 under defense.

You know what they say: any time you can hire a former Jags assistant, you just have to pull the trigger
