What the eff is King of the Jungle?

Not sure how much longer it went on, memory's not that great...Just thought it might be fun.

King of the Jungle was a panthers-forum first round mock draft challenge to see who got the most picks correct.

The other challenge was the Top Cat Challenge which you tried to predict all of the Panthers' picks.

Lost in all the offseason discussion, I'm just now starting to sit back and think.

What do you guys think about our prospects for next year? I think that the easy thing to think is that we're one year removed from a Super Bowl appearance, and that our roster hasn't really changed that much...but we're also in the same division as the defending NFC champs. The champs who honestly committed the worst choke job in super bowl history, and possibly NFL history (given the scope.)

What do you all want to see for the rest of the offseason, what are you uncertain about? Do you think that drafting for need would be a better choice right now, given the window? Would you be happier if we drafted for need, or had a more balanced draft perspective?

QB - Cam
RB - Stewart
FB - ???
WR - KB/Funchess/Shepard/Charles Johnson
TE - Olsen
LT - Kalil
LG - Norwell
C - Kalil
RG - Turner
RT - Oher???? Daryl Williams????

LDE - Johnson / Peppers
RDE - Addison
NT - Lotulelei
UT - Short
SAM - Thompson
MIKE - Keuchly
WILL - Davis
LCB - Worley
RCB - Bradberry
FS - Coleman
SS - Mike Adams

From a needs based perspective...I think or needs go

1a. RT
1b. WR
2. TE2
3. CB2 or CB3 (I like Worley, but the jury's still out on both he and Bradberry, with Bradberry earning more favor.)

I think we have enough positions that have future worries tied to them that we'd be wise to take BPA as consistently as possible, but at the same time, we probably are facing a window, at least to some degree. As Cam ages, I honestly wouldn't mind us taking the Patriots approach start looking into drafting QB's higher up in the draft, even.

I would like to nab at least three of these in the draft:

TE2... Ed Dickson isn't much of a receiver or blocker and switching to a 2TE offense could help mask a lot of our issues
FB... position still has value imo
SS... someone for the future since Mike Adams is old and Tre Boston is a spot starter at best
DE... obv need someone to groom under CJ and Pep
RB of the future... preferably a bigger dude like Fournette, Perine, Gallman, etc. but I would be ok with McCaffrey
Speed WR... someone to replace Ginn

And I would like to solve these issues after preseason cuts:

CB depth... Bradberry, Munnerlyn, Worley, then a bunch of JAGs...
OT depth... I'll trust them on the Kalil rehabilitation project for now and I think Oher passes concussion protocol... want some depth though
Returner... for the love of god, get Joe Webb and Fozzy Whittaker out of there

An ideal way to solve my draft wants is

1. Take Christian McCaffrey at 8 (returner, RBOTF, not a burner receiver but can line up out wide often to give us some mismatches)
2. Trade up for Njoku if he starts to fall to the low 20s by packaging our 2s
3. Grab best available DE at end of 3rd... not sure who would be there, maybe Walker can slip?

Then go BPA from there and try to snag Sam Rogers.

Oh, thanks. Well I don't have too much to offer this year, haven't kept up with CFB or draft stuff at all. Started looking at some of the higher rated players recently, but I can't say I really know enough to post about stuff like I used to Razz

I've been promoting this idea ever since ginn left so we're definitely on the same page. give the kid some play during the pre season and I think he'll be a more complete wr than ginn. dunno about his return skills yet but I know he's got speed (maybe not ginn game speed) but he has better hands than ginn IMO

With Short under contract long-term, I will be disappointed if our #1 pick is on the defensive side. We still need an edge rusher, but Thomas and Allen are both arguably better fits on the interior. Not saying they couldn't play edge; both are great prospects and both could play at end (and at a high level I reckon). However, a lot of the appeal to them was how we could slide them inside if necessary. As of now, our defense is clearly three steps ahead of the offense. I would rather we take a step back and draft a pass rusher in the second round or beyond. The only two guys I would be interested in at this point on defense would be Adams and Hooker. We haven't visited with Hooker yet (and I'm not sure he's the kind of safety we want anyway; he's more of a center-fielder, which is the role we want to put Coleman back in) and I'm not sure Adams will fall to us.

And I'm usually all for just drafting the best player and not reaching to fill a need (like offensive tackle all those years). I just think we would be doing a disservice to our offensive coaching staff if we didn't bring in a high level offensive player.

If we don't get McCaffrey or Fournette in the 1st, I would absolutely love Kamara in the 2nd round.

Assuming Fournette is available at #3, do you see any scenario in which Carolina gives up #8, #40, and either #64 or a 2018 2nd round pick?

Would you consider it highly likely, likely, or unlikely?

Thanks!!

Good god no. To move five spots, I wouldn't give up more than #8, #64 and #98, and i'd consider even that a massive overpay.
