"Source tells @sn_nfl Richard Smith no longer @AtlantaFalcons DC & Bryan Cox dismissed as defensive line coach. Story coming ASAP at @sn_nfl"

Severely happy about both of these things happening as Smith is the reason for our terrible defensive ranking at the beginning of the season. Once Quinn took over play call duties about half way through we became almost a top 10 defense from that point on.

Cox has been around for far to long without producing any real pass rusher or great DT. Beasley and Jarrett the 2 that are the best we have are crediting Freeney with most of their mentorship and helping them reach the next level.

I know it's gonna be sad as i liked him as a person and he was pretty funny in videos but as a DL coach he just didn't get the job done boss. you can hire him as a Dolphin if you want Very Happy

This. They tired out because they were on the field for 40 minutes. They made the Patriots offensive line under Scar look like a joke for most of the game. And hell they got a pick six and a fumble.

The defense was the reason the game was a blow out in the first place.

When was the last time a super bowl team had coaching turnover like this. Mitigating circumstances or no (Shanny getting hired by the niners, it was always likely that he was taking some people), this just seems like an entire shake up on the staff with all of the people that they are going to be replacing.

Thats not the norm overall since Cox has been here bro. Bryan Cox has been one of the few coaches we have asked to be let go a few seasons now as Fans. He was a hold over from the Smitty era where we couldn't get a D-line together if our life depended on it. At this point im quite sure it's more so Freeney helping all the young guys and teaching them a thing or 2 as Beasley and Jarrett both have said and Quinn being a great D-line coach. Than Cox some how amazingly making the D-line be better automatically.

The only one that comes to mind is the 2004 Pats. They won SB39, but lost both coordinators (Weiss and Crennel). Similar, but not as much turnover as the Falcons.

You two haven't watch very many Falcons games have you? There's a reason that they were 11th worst defense in QB pressure during the regular season. Despite having played 7 games against QB's with tendancies to extend plays and play outside the pocket and a weak offensive schedule. All the while having a player like Beasley on the outside. And it's not like they faced much competition in the run game either, where they also fell short.

Changes needed to be made. Period. Whether they work out for the better or not, who knows. We'll see.

Bryant Young was brought in to coach the DL and there's strong speculation that: DB coach Marquand Manuel, LB coach Jeff Ulbrich, and Raheem Morris are all in play to take the position.

Believe that Ryan has already gone on record stating that he won't come back as a coordinator. While I don't know how long he'll hold on to that stance, I think it's safe for at least the 2017 season.

Both coordinators on that Patriots team left to take head coaching roles though: Weiss at Norte Dame and Crennel in Cleveland. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a Super Bowl loser or two that let go one of its coordinators.

Marquand Manuel was promoted to DC, Bryant Young (one of Dan Quinn's best friends) is now DL coach.
