@AdamSchefter: Cap casualties keep coming, this time in Green Bay. Packers released CB Sam Shields, per source.

Not surprising. He's suffered too many concussions. Sad

Not really sure I understand Schefter's comment on Sam being a cap casualty... if Sam played all year at the level we expected, he would be returning next year...

But anyways, this was an obvious cut and I hope that he retires with his concussion history. Thank you Sam, you were one of my favourite Packers

Waiting for fans of many teams to say their team should sign him without thinking that the Packers are desperate for CBs and kept him on IR all year long then cut him and he is still having headaches and still has not cleared protocol. Sadly, his brain is messed up.

Well he said he was waiting for fans of many teams to say that, so I said it.

He missed 5 games in 2015 with a concussion. He then went down week 1 in 2016 with a concussion and it was reported that he was still having symptoms from that week 1 concussion the day of the NFCCG. Point is, he probably should just retire. We'll sorely miss his play o the field, especially if Ted doesn't sign a replacement level CB in free agency with the savings from cutting Shields.

Wonder how much money he's brought in during his career. Glad at the least he got one year of good money.

Shields has said that he wants to continue playing, despite still having periodic headaches. The Packers avoid a salary of $8 million by releasing him; they’ll carry a cap charge of $3.125 million arising from the final chunk of his signing bonus.

He earned about $33 million in his career with GB. Definitely more then just one year of good money.

Kurt Warner surely made more, but not shocking...he's a quarterback.

It's impressive for Shields. Hope he makes the best possible decision for his career and life.
