So, I’ve been participating as the GM for the Giants in my latest mock draft, NFL Total Control Mock GM Draft and wanted to share what I’ve done while acting as GM.
The Giants started out with $41,892,178 in available cap space, I am now down to $4,225,849, so hopefully I’ve spent the money wisely at least I think I did.

Going into the mock draft, I had the following goals in mind:
1. Improve the offensive line
2. Improve the running back lineup
3. Resign JPP
4. Resign Hankins

Original Trade Block
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Rashad Jennings
Shane Vereen
Victor Cruz

Completed Trades
    NYG and LA Rams
    Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - CB
    Round 4 Pick #37 (#142 overall)
    For
    Round 3 Pick #15 (#79 overall)

    NYG and SF
    New York Giants - 1st Round - Pick 23
    Victor Cruz – WR
    For
    San Francisco 49ers - 2nd Round - Pick 2
    San Francisco 49ers - 3rd Round - Pick 28
    San Francisco 49ers - 6th Round - Pick 21
    San Francisco 49ers - 7th Round - Pick 4

I made another trade during the draft to move up.

My available picks after all the trades:
    2nd Round - Pick 1 - Overall: 33 | Team: NYG - 4578 JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR
    2nd Round - Pick 10 - Overall: 42 | Team: NYG - 4313 Dion Dawkins, OT
    2nd Round - Pick 24 - Overall: 56 | Team: NYG - 4801 Rasul Douglas, CB
    6th Round - Pick 19 - Overall: 205 | Team: NYG - 4124 C.J. Beathard, QB
    6th Round - Pick 23 - Overall: 209 | Team: NYG - 4658 Levon Myers, OT
    6th Round - Pick 24 - Overall: 210 | Team: NYG - 4485 Jeremiah Ledbetter, DT
    246. New York Giants - 7th Round - Pick 23 | 04-Feb-17 - 07:40 PM - 08:20 PM

I’ve still got 1 pick left in the 7th round to make.

I thought that Julu, would be a great compliment playing opposite of Odell with Sterling Sheppard in the slot.
Offensive tackle Dion Dawkins, was a good value pick.
Rasul Douglas was a ball catching nightmare for quarterbacks.
CJ Beathard in the 6th gives the Giants another project QB to groom.
Levon Myers is an offensive lineman that can play inside or out…value pick
Jeremiah Ledbetter has a great burst off the line and could be used in sub packages to get to the QB.

No idea why you are trading DRC for that low of a price. He was 2nd Team All pro. His value is higher then a 3rd rd for our team

I don't like moving back in the draft. We don't need more depth players.

You don't draft a single DE?

Why is Johnathan Cooper on our team and starting

Glad to see I have a fan.

I'll admit boredom was the reason for both of the trades, I know that DRC is a big name on the giants defense. I shouldn't have traded DRC.

No I didn't draft a DE, I didn't see the need in it after resigning JPP, bringing back Wynn and adding depth at the position via free agency.

I don't think it was the defense that cost us the season, so I attacked the free agency looking for offensive line help and running backs. Which I ended up getting two of the best backs in the free agency and a better tackle than Flowers, who I moved to the right side, because I believe he's got more to offer at that position.

I get that Cooper isn't a gem, but compared to what we had on that side, its an upgrade, but I drafted and signed a ton of offensive lineman, surely one of them is better than the turnstile we had this year.

Not sure why you would say that the team is in win now mode, because I don't see where I dismantled that idea with these off season moves.

If anything, its better. Better receivers, better running backs, better offensive line. All the things that IMO kept us out of winning a super bowl this year.

If its because of the DRC trade, okay I get it, I wouldn't disagree, he played lights out this year. Has been playing lights out since he signed. But one trade doesn't mean I've scrapped the season and started rebuilding.

You'd take the current offense over what I did?

Cooper is on his fourth team going into his fifth season. We need to do better or it's going to be a long season. We can do much worse then what we had this season

So remove Cooper and put the second round pick I drafted at guard. Problem solved.

fyi, I edited the last post.

The way I see it is I've got almost a 90 man roster, going into training camp. So all these lineman I drafted and signed will be fighting for positions as it's trimmed down to 53.

Pretty good free agent haul. Being able to keep JPP is a big plus. Not sure we need both Blount and Murray at running back. Bolstered the offensive line nicely if Kalil can play at a decent level.

My only gripe is getting rid of DRC. It's been brought up by several Giants fans. What is the fascination of getting rid of DRC? He was great for us this year and was 2nd team all pro. You traded him for peanuts.

The way this mock's free agency is designed, is you've got 3 blind bids for each round of fa. So that limits who all you can target within a single round. I put bids on both running backs, expecting to land one of them but ended up with both. Not complaining at all as they combined for 30 TDs last season....haha.

I think the fascination with trading drc in these mocks at least this mock was simply I wanted to make a trade, and he was the only player on the roster that had value that was nearing the end of his contract. Real life, no way I would trade him, not even for a first round pick. I should of just extended his contract for another 4 years and been happy...haha.

I swear, DRC is the most disrespected player on this team. He was literally our best defensive player in 2015, and people want to cut and trade him. People saying stuff like he's "just a slot corner" or "overpaid." The only reason he played slot is because he's the most versatile corner on our team. That's a GOOD thing not a BAD thing. He's on an INCREDIBLY team friendly contract considering he made All-Pro this year and Pro Bowl the last two years in an extremely competitive position. DRC stays! Sheesh.

Rany over Very Happy

ANYWAY...

Yeah, the mock is not too good. But I give you props for trying to think outside of the box by making moves other than the obvious.

I get the whole DRC thing, like I said I shouldn't have traded for the sake of trading.

Obviously you aren't a fan of the transactions I made, but in your opinion what are the obvious moves I should of made?

Because I felt offensive line, and a poor running game were two major concerns and I think I addressed those needs in the mock.

I don't know how much you spent on Blount and Murray, but I hope it was close to nothing. RB is by far the easiest position to replace.

Blount is a thirty years old RB who can't receive.

Murray is also not a good receiving back and is coming off a bad season behind one of the best OL in the league.

For OL, you signed an average LT. There isn't a lot of moves out there for OL, but signing one player and a bunch of backups won't turn around our OL. As I said though, there aren't a lot of moves out there.

Hankins I'm on the fence about. I don't know the contract you gave him, but it's a lot of money for the DL. We don't need 4 expensive DL.

Also didn't do anything with LB and decided we shouldn't use a TE

Personally, I don't think that the Giants need a receiving running back. I think back to the days of Brandon Jacobs and how much success he had. I would prefer the power back for Eli to have to pull the safeties inside a bit more.

I'm aware of Blount's age, but still believe he's got plenty of tread on the tires. His attempts over his career haven't been very high and considering he'd be sharing the workload with L. Murray his age wasn't a huge factor. I did however, sign him to a 3 year deal $4,100,000 APY with a total signing bonus of $6,200,000. Perhaps a little long on the contract length but nothing that's killing the bank. Murray's contract was similar in numbers but for 5 years.

Murray didn't play a full season, but still mustarded 12 TD and averaged 4.0 yards per attempt, that's 6 more than what all of our run game collected. Ranked 5th in TD's this season and Blount coming in first with 18. The "Green Zone" is always an issue with the Giants, so both signings were solid pick ups, in my opinion.

I disagree that running back is the easiest position to replace, Giants have gone through plenty and still haven't found one worth keeping or calling a starter.

On the O-line, I was in trade talks to get Washington's Trent Williams but the asking price was too high as they wanted both first and second round picks, and you're right, slim pickings in the free agency. Matt Kalil while average, is a huge upgrade over Flowers.

This is where the top tackles were drafted in the first round:

1st Round - Pick 7 - Overall: 7 | Team: SD - 4130 Cam Robinson, OT
1st Round - Pick 9 - Overall: 9 | Team: CIN - 4839 Ryan Ramczyk, OT
1st Round - Pick 27 - Overall: 27 | Team: DEN - 4385 Garett Bolles, OT
2nd Round - Pick 10 - Overall: 42 | Team: NYG - 4313 Dion Dawkins, OT

So if I had not traded down, I could of picked up Bolles, but Dawkins in the second is great value imo and could push Matt for the starting job or potentially start at guard. Also, think I picked up a solid in Levon Myers from the Huskies. Hard to say right now, with limited tape and waiting on the combine to get a good grasp on how good they really are, but I don't think this is a great draft class for left tackle.

The Hankins extension after I tagged him:

2017 - cap hit $7,800,000
2018 - $10,800,000
2019 - $14,800,000
2020 - $17,800,000
2021 - $19,800,000
2022 - $21,000,000 - base salary only

Take those numbers lightly because with all mock drafts the numbers are inflated on the backside.

As for TE, I patched it up the best I could, you can only do so much in one season. I did try to resign Keenan Robinson but was outbid, but signed Nick Bellore who put up like numbers to Robinson. Giants did draft Goodson last season, who in my opinion can play inside linebacker. I'm pretty sure that's was his position in college. So I went depth to back him and Kelvin Sheppard rather than signing a big name in the draft or free agency. Hate to draft the same position again when the team has a young talent that could potentially start his second year.
