If the Patriots hold onto Butler and Hightower, or even just one of the two, is this the best off season Belichick has ever had? Even before the draft?

Well, the draft is unlikely to yield much so they need to keep scooping up decent/lower cost veterans. I'd like to see another veteran CB or safety and more help along the front 7 on top of signing Hightower. They're still thin at the edge spot and, while they have some decent depth options at LB, I'd like another starting caliber LB alongside Hightower.

I know this will never happen... But i know some people have speculated at various times on both of these... But imagine we traded JG to the browns for no.1 of no.12 pick. And also the saints offer butler via the offer sheet and we take their no. 11!!! How awesome would that be? Not only are we looking solid right now, but to have those 2 picks would make me laugh all year long!! I know it'll never happen but i can dream!!

Chris Long, who just won a ring with the team and already made it clear he doesn't want to re-sign? Think

I assume he's citing Long as a past example...

"Vets like Chris Long" suggests that he means vets similarly situated to Long when he signed.

It will varie. Maybe after the draft that we talk to some vets who would take less than market value. The guy that comes up is AP but honestly with the miles on those tires, the injuries, the fumbling and just overall it would be a 1 year solution to a bigger issue screams the Patriots go in a different direction.

I gotta look over the FA list of some guys we could bring in who are older but could compete.

Set up notifications on your phone for Schefter and Rappoport tweets, that's what I do.

If Hightower comes back I would be more than satisfied with this off season regardless of what happens with Butler.
