The D has been average to subpar for the vast majority of the past 6 seasons. It lacks playmakers. It lacks aggression. It lacks speed. It looks confused at key points during the game.

Against mediocre to bad offenses, the D has actually been pretty good.

Against good to great offenses, ugh. In big spot moments, ugh again.

Investing yet another 1st round pick, continuing to sign our own, or even adding a free agent every third year or so (Peppers & Guion) has not improved the D and there is no reason to believe that just continuing to do more of the same will lead to any different outcome.

Peppers, Clay, and Shields are the 3 highest-paid defenders. At least 2 of them are unlikely to return. Thus, there should be resources available to add pieces this offseason.

There is not a single CB who can be counted on heading next season. Not one.

The inside linebackers have been below average since Desmond Bishop got hurt.

Mike Daniels, HHCD, and Morgan Burnett are solid. If Perry re-signs, he is a nice piece at OLBer. Kenny Clark shows promise.

Otherwise, the time has come for a fundamental transformation of the defense –SCHEME, COACHES, and PERSONNEL, right?

The defense has been terrible against good offenses ever since we won the Super Bowl.

Is he really an upgrade? His defenses have sucked for the last 6 years (in fact, they were worse than Capers' in 4 of those 6)

Injuries have killed us in this secondary, our front 7 ain't half bad at all. Just gotta get some depth at Corner. After this game I just think we need to move on from Dom, sometimes fresh faces is good. Still think we should stick with the 3-4.

Clay isn't the pass rusher he used to be. I really think he can be a good ILB and rush vs slower Guards up the middle. As OLB he gets washed out of plays way too often these days. Issue is I don't know if he would take a paycut and he seems intent on wanting to play outside so meh

Peppers is gone as a FA. Fackrell looked bad this yr and is old for a rookie so I'm not very high on him. Elliott is alright as depth goes. Perry is priority #1 to re-sign. They badly need him back but even with him they likely need to address EDGE in the draft.

Secondary is hard to pinpoint. Is Shields gonna be back or not? Are Randall/Rollins abysmal play this yr due solely to injury? Either way, CB is looking like a serious need at this point just to cover their tracks here.

This team needs some serious athletes on both sides of the ball man

Let Clay go and redirect that space to a corner. Throw money at someone like Gilmore.

I think Peppers retires and honestly, I don't think we can rely on Shields. One concussion and he missed the entire year, so his concussion history means he's likely done. Clay probably should move back inside where he can beat guards and centers. GB needs a serious infusion of talent at CB and edge. I also would like to see them go after Rex.

No thanks. He had a terrible year in 2016. I'd rather draft a couple more.

looks like it will be a decent class, might be some good values to be found this offseason. Using FA to replace guys like Shields is a prudent use of it, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us add a vet DB.

no need to direct that money anywhere except for another/more pass-rushing. Shields money should go to a replacement.
