Obviously, if you use a 1st round pick on a RB, you're not going to use him in a committee. Do we need a 1st round RB? No. Getting an impact player on D will make much more of a difference.

That's what makes this a cyclical situation IMO. I don't think Reggie or many other smart GMs would use a 1st rd pick on a back besides LF and Cook therefore they aren't feature back talent level in most instances. Some guys outperform expectations.

And yes, I understand we don't need a first rd back. Said it long ago.

I think that's the wrong mindset to have. Yes, if we have the choice of a LB and a RB who are similarly graded then I get favoring the LB but if Cook or Fournette is there they will most likely be much better prospects than the other players available. For instance, Jarrad Davis is an okay prospect in my mind but if it's between him and Cook I think it would be insane not to take Cook. Additionally I think that if we had a talent at RB such as Fournette or Cook (or Mixon IMO) it could take our offense to an entirely different level and it's not worth passing that up for an okay player at a position of need or because of Richard and DeWash.

Some of those seem a little high to me, especially the WRs. How much is the cap going up this year?

It is going up $13 million but there are a lot of teams with a ton of cap room. There is almost $1.2 billion in cap space this year. Average cap space is almost $37.5 million. That is why players like Jonathan Hankins will get $10+ million and another reason to extend Mack and Carr before free agency begins.

Agreed. No need for a RB that high. A savvy vet to be insurance for Washington and Richard would do.

There won't be any cheap savvy vet on the market IMO. I would like us to draft a strong between the tackles guy in the mid-late rounds and put him in the rotation next to The Smurfs.

Lacy, Williams, and Blount are the only real starting caliber RB free agents. Gillislee and Thompson are good options I like but are Restricted. Unless we get a good deal I see us retaining Murray for a couple years or drafting a RB. If Cook is there late RM will not pass on him unless there is some serious red flags with his off the field activities. There is a ton of defensive talent in free agency, good picks after the first for the defense, and we can still develop our own players. We played without MEJ and Smith all season, Ward and Calhoun will hopefully show some improvement, we have a new DB coach, and most importantly a defensive assistant that understands x's and o's. Sign one of the big DTs (Poe, Williams squared, Logan, or Hankins), sign an ILB or 2, and draft a true SS and CB in rounds 2-5. We are good and we do not have to worry about RB for the next 6-8 years. There are thousands of ways this could go but drafting a possible all pro RB in the first round is not a bad way to start. If you look at my mock off-season we are going to have to cut some quality players on D to get down to the player limit. We have plenty of talent and can easily fill our holes. It is just a matter of getting them ready to play together.

Gillislee and Fairley are my top two FA targets. Wheaton would be an interesting add as well.

My top RB FA choice but we will probably not get a chance since he is a RFA. He would be perfect fit with our itty bitty RB committee.
