Yup. This may be the one instance where I can admit to wanting to see a division rival succeed (at least to the point of becoming "competitive" again). A reinvigorated 49ers team means a much better chance for a rekindled Niners/Rams (SF/LA) rivalry which will drive popularity and put butts in seats (and create better atmosphere) for the Rams.
For some fans they don't get really invested until there's an enemy to hate. |
Well, I'm disappointed because I thought McDaniels would flop in SF. |
He might have flopped, but he would have brought Caserio who likely would have survived past McDaniels even if McD flopped. _________________

Caserio turned down the interview and when Lions hired Quinn that they didnt bother to ask about interviewing w/ Caserio because they figured he was staying. Louis Riddick was the guy attached to McDaniels in a lot of the rumors.

Tim Kawakami was just asked that very question on Twitter, his response:

It makes too much sense. Coaching candidates are sexier and Jed probably got caught up in that with his national buddies. |
Now, hiring the HC first isn't automatically a bad idea. But when it's done for the reasons Jed York is doing it for, it certainly is a cause for concern. But Jed York is as incompetent as they come, so this is par for the course |
Maybe I'm giving York too much credit but I just figured he was letting the HC pick the GM because he wants the team built around the HC and it also makes it feel safer since the GM you choose would fire you prematurely in the rebuild. _________________

Caserio actually declined to take the interview. If McDaniels would have been the HC, likely Wolf, Patton or Riddick would have been the GM. _________________

Schefter said if Shanahan is the next HC as he is the clear favorite, he will have input on who the next GM will be.
Some other reports are linking him and Brian Gutekunst together. |
The only real question is, how do the hell do you pronounce this?? _________________

You can call him GoodArt, it's basically the same. |

I mean at this point the 49ers might have to Hire chip Kelly back because no one wants that Coaching Job, Jed York has hilariously run this team into the ground with no way out. _________________ I'm not an honest person, I'm just 50 honest hamsters in a trench coat that learned to type.

Though I don't think there is any way York doesn't give at least three to four years to the next HC. I mean unless there is some sort of scandal involved, you can't just fire a coach every single year when the talent is so bad. _________________

And in a move that will make every Niners fan sigh with relief and every Seahawks fan scream in agony...

Looks like the Niners are going to be banking on Shanahan. If he were to turn them down... _________________

For his sake, I hope Kyle stays away and waits until next year. I can't imagine any coach having success there. That job basically requires a placeholder coach for 2-3 years before being fired and then the next coach has a chance to do something once the roster is rebuilt.
But Jed York thinks he can land that coach who can do something right away... that roster needs to be blown up. _________________
