#Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is stepping back from the coaching search to focus on playoffs. Means itís Tom Cable or Kyle Shanahan for #49ers

Seemed like he was the favorite. I'm not a 49er fan but seeing Cables name makes me ill.

I'm glad McDaniels decided to stay with the Pats. Looks like 49ers went hard after him but McD didn't think it was a good situation for him. 49ers are having a really tough time attracting coaching/GM talent.

I hope 49ers pick Tom Cable, he is of no help to Seahawks as a O line coach.

Good for the 49ers. Things can always get worse.

That will happen when you get rid of three coaches in three years.

Smart move on his part. Hopefully Shanny does the same.

Feel like the 49ers will be coach hell for a few years. But I guess it'd be nice to start out with a top pick

he just wants to cozy up to belichick until he quits or retires. then he can coach the patriots. that's all he wants.

Good I'd rather him be Belichick's successor. He helped develop Brady a lot and when he doesn't get to cute he's developed the best offenses this league's scene. He also by all accounts matured a lot since failing in Denver.

This is a nice surprise. In many respects he was probably the best name on the market. Glad Patricia is staying too. He's been great at developing defenses with what he's had to work with.

You can't ask a decent chef to make culinary magic with low-grade ingredients. No real idea as to why posters try to judge assistants on their ability to do this, escapes me.

Take it from Raider fans then, Cable is a complete bum.

Yup. This may be the one instance where I can admit to wanting to see a division rival succeed (at least to the point of becoming "competitive" again). A reinvigorated 49ers team means a much better chance for a rekindled Niners/Rams (SF/LA) rivalry which will drive popularity and put butts in seats (and create better atmosphere) for the Rams.

For some fans they don't get really invested until there's an enemy to hate.

But these linemen aren't low grade, they aren't undrafted. They have potential, they need a good coach to guide them. Britt is only in his 2nd year and he's doing good, Ifedi, and Fant are rookies. Gilliam is the only veteran here, and Cable hasn't done much to help the team.

He very well may be, you're a Raider guy and I pay little attention to the AFC so I'll defer to you on that. My comment isn't related to Tom Cable as an individual, it's to the idea that positional coaches are judged on this awfully weird pendulum of genius or idiot. "We're gonna give a man a unit filled with few if any high talent players. If they play well he's a genius, if they don't he's an idiot". That is the prevailing thought process here and it baffles me.
