Jerry Jones promised a "do right" policy but as soon as the Texans expressed interest in not waiting until Romo was released, the "do right" promised was dropped.

Do you have a link it's HOU driving this?

Because the other possibility is Romo wants a trade because then the $ is guaranteed...and he doesn't have to renegotiate as a FA - he probably has more leverage now to make a deal happen and keep his salary intact (or higher) than if he becomes a UFA and HOU and we have limited cap $ left later on (or one of us drops out).

We don't enough info to know what's going on.

Either way, DAL is now holding off on releasing him. Fine by me, Elway, keep working on upgrading our trenches first & foremost.

I'm following what tweeters (notably Troy Renck and Mike Klis) are saying about the Texans wanting to jump ahead of the Broncos for Romo. But I don't have any firm info.

Charlie Casserly raised the idea that Romo would want to force a trade so that his salary is maintained. But I can't believe that a team would prefer him at that price.

If HOU is willing to take him at that price and they want to give a pick to lock us out.....I'm all for that.

Total non-starter for us to give up any pick AND take on a 14.7M salary. Even with Campbell out of our sights, we have just over 30M left, and we still need LT, RT, NT, 3-4 DE, and 3rd WR (ILB can be drafted for depth if we address NT/DE).

If we had to trade, I wld rather trade for Joe Thomas than Romo. The only way this Romo thing has appeal was he come free and at a discount. Anything else is the type of move franchises like Houston make not us.

HOU making a trade makes way more sense - they lost AJ Bouye, and as we covered yesterday, they only have 2 needs (G and RT) that stand out - and can address 1 in the draft. They were willing to go 14-15M on Bouye, but only because he's young and elite - not because CB was a key need.

Besides QB of course.

If Elway and co. are even thinking of bidding - they need to get a hold of themselves and step away from the ledge. Trench upgrades, first, second and third priority.

HUGE NEWS -- sounds like the Browns traded for Osweiler. Texans will switch to Romo.

Denver saves its money.

Thing about the trade is, the cap hit this year is super low ($14.75m). Yea it's a tough deal to get out of the 2 following years, but Romo would command a larger, possibly even longer deal on the open market.

Mike Glennon just got $15m/season, open market Romo is very likely to be an even bigger 3 year deal than the 3 years currently left on his deal. He's never said anything about giving a discount to go anywhere.

Also, trade price is probably who has a higher 6th or 7th round pick.

Actually a smart move by Browns. Non-football analytics dudes in their FO making their mark. With that cap room, just let Osweiler sit on the bench for a year. All for an extra 2nd.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU HOUSTON.

(Again, nothing against Romo 2014 version, but way too much $ and we have way more needs).

HOU again saves Elway from himself re: QB.

I think he'll start, and they'll let him lose 14 games so they can get Sam Darnold 1.1 next year. Or Rosen, the other elite level QB prospect. Both are way higher thought of than any of the 2017 QB's - Winston/Mariota level (diff skill types but same level).

Osweiler goes "one and done"! And it's still 5 minutes until free-agency officially starts...

I'm waiting for Elway's "splash move".

Hahahaha
Which team is dumber than Houston?
That wld be Cleveland. Willing to take on Brock's salary. Second dumbest team? Texans willing to take on Romo's salary. LOL

Ok the Romo issue is dead. We can now focus on our Lines and QB competition/development in camp.
