http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000773952/article/raiders-to-file-relocation-papers-to-move-from-oakland-to-vegas

Quote:
The Raiders will file relocation papers to move from Oakland to Las Vegas, according to sources familiar with their thinking. After a year of planning, debate, and bold action, after many years of a sub-par stadium option in Oakland, the Raiders have made a firm decision on their future.

The stunning move, one that should be made official in the coming days, is expected to add a new city to the NFL's ever-changing landscape. The Raiders would need 24 votes from the league's owners to formally make the move, a vote that will come this spring.

So just when Raider fans have a solid team and something to finally look forward to they're just gonna try to pull the rug from underneath them. Rolling Eyes

What's worse is, didn't they just finally come close to selling out of season tickets last season?

This is another prime example of the owners not giving two whats about the fan-base or the years of loyalty that they've shown.

So.. in the previous post, someone said they would remain in Oakland for two seasons while the stadium is being built? Would they therefore remain the Oakland Raiders until then?

Can't imagine there will be much fan support. Laughing

They will always be the Oakland Raiders. No matter what city they play home games in, It's an identity. It's who they are. They were Oakland to my dad even when they were in LA.

Yes, they'll still be there before the final move to Vegas in 2019.

This video explains it at about the 1:15 mark

I hope it's a domed stadium.... with a lot of air conditioning.

I went to Las Vegas in August once.

I hope Oakland collectively refuses to buy tickets for those two years.

Or at least if you go to the games, remain completely silent on defense.

Goodell and the owners refuse to realize that they keep shooting themselves in the foot in search of just that one billion more in revenue.

There is absolutely no long term planning, remove teams from long established markets and rob their fans while in search of a short term shot in the arm of $$$.

The league is more of a business than ever before, and we aren't done seeing this musical chairs BS.

Me too. These money hungry owners need a reality check, and I feel like it would take drastic measures such as this and more in order to start that process. Clearly something needs to be done. Oakland losing their team TWICE now! This is going to fun to watch.

Yea baby, about damn time something official happened. It's been decades since we have been taken seriously, both on and off the field. Early in the process, I wanted it to play out like this:

1. Oakland
2. Las Angeles
3. Las Vegas
4. Other

So obviously I am disappointed the city/league/Mark could't get their - together and make it work so we can stay in Oakland, and also very frustrated that 2 franchises with less fans get to move to LA. But honestly LV is an awesome consolation prize.

Feels strange to me that California (the biggest state in terms of population) will go from 3 teams in 3 cities to 2 teams in 1 city.

I agree, the 49ers are so awful they don't deserve to be acknowledged.
