Our former LB coach Matt Burke has been named our new Defensive Coordinator. I like Burke's philosophy about tailoring the scheme to fit the players. Hopefully after the draft he will have some shiny new talent to scheme with and continue to improve our Defense. From a defensive statistics standpoint we don't really have anywhere to go but up.

I'm happy for the consistency, at least.

Two things: (1) we're staying with the same defensive scheme, and (2) " I really feel like we had two defensive coordinators on that side of the ball" is quite a big statement - clearly Burke showed enough responsibility to step up. But one has to wonder what that says about Joseph...

Supposedly Burke is a big one-gap guy, and the wide-9 will likely be used less often.

Good. Really not a fan of the wide-9 at all. Made us far too easy prey to the running game this season.

The wide 9 works IF you have really good LB's that can fill the interior gaps. With our horrid LB play, it actually exposed us more. We need to run a traditional 4-3. It is going to hurt Cam Wake a little, but he can flex to the outside when he sees an opportunity based on how the offense is lined up. He has been in the league long enough to be given that flexibility.

It can work with elite linebackers, sure. But very few teams have the personnel to do that.
