There are almost no complaints from Panthers fans about him and he seems extremely well respected. _________________

Just out of curiousity what makes you say that? Eagles ranked 12th in defense both years with McDermott as DC. That doesnt exactly "suck" so in your opinion what made him a bad DC for you? |
Players were constantly out of position, and he tried too often to get cute by doing things like regularly dropping our ends into pass coverage. He didn't seem to have any situational awareness either.
And sure, 12th in yards per game and 14th in points per game sounds average at worst. But we had talent. The year before we were 3rd and 4th in yards and points per game respectively. The year before we were top ten in both categories as well.
So we had a major drop off, and it can't all be blamed on losing Dawkins. _________________

He was seen as one of the top possible 1st time coaches availabile. Let's see if this goes through. _________________ I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Now I can only stutter in Spanish.

Question to Panther fans. IIRC, the Panthers defense frequently went into "prevent win" mode after gaining a lead. Am I misremembering or do you not attribute that to McDermott? |

He had trouble getting the players to buy-in. And I think that has less to do with him as a coach and more to do with what happens when you basically start as an intern and work your way to DC with the same organization. Our vets thought of him as the kid versus a guy they were accountable to. |

Buffalo fans: Does this make it much more likely the Bills will re-sign Zach Brown? Seems like McDermott will want a strong ILB corps like he had in CAR. Brown and Ragland would be a pretty good tandem. _________________

Sean McDermott's likely DC in Buffalo is Panthers LB coach Al Holcomb, per source. Logical hire and promotion. |

In the Bills forum this has been a hot topic. I think he fizzed out and was ineffective shedding blocks and became a liability in the run.
He could be good in the new system but I wouldn't pay big bucks for him which he may get on the market. _________________

Thanks. I'm sure he'd still be the best ILB on our team if we signed him. _________________

I think we resign him. McDermott loves speed from his linebackers. Zach Brown was made for his sytem. _________________

I wish McDermott nothing but the best. Quality guy. I do think people were too quick to attribute success here to him though. His defenses in Philly were 19th and 21st in points allowed. Rivera is the core reason our defense has been so stingy.
However, I think McDermott will make a fine head coach and i'm glad he landed in a place like Buffalo that I can stand. _________________
