I'll post a link when I'm not on my phone. Read it on bleacher report.

I didn't necessarily want Bill replaced but if a move was going to be made I like the decision to roll with a guy that helped oversee the development of DC and wont ask him to learn an entirely new offense. In addition to knowing what Carr and company like and don't like and what they do well and not so well.

Norton would have went before Musgrave if it were me, but he's expected to return according to bleacher report.

@RapSheet

Sources: The #Raiders need a new offensive coordinator. Bill Musgrave not expected to return to the team for 2017. Had 6th ranked offense.

#Raiders former OC Bill Musgrave had a contract that was expiring. OAK lets it expire. May have an in-house candidate in QB Todd Downing.

Todd Downing will be the next OC of the #Raiders, per source

It sounds like Downing is an up and coming offensive mind, and if we didn't retain him in some capacity he would have bolted for a higher gig elsewhere. I like this move personally. I imagine he will be more aggressive than Musgrave, while still keeping continuity with Carr.

Bill Romanowski just said on the Radio he thinks it was Musgraves decision to leave because of How JDR took shots at him at press conferences .

Not trying to be negative because I like the hire but do we have any reason to believe Downing will be a more aggressive play caller? He's never called plays before correct?

Kinda surprised. Musgrave was maligned by many but he did call a productive offense the two years he was here.

But I believe Our offense is going to be great no matter who calls plays, we have a franchise QB and great personnel.

Didn't want Del Rio to fire him twice.

well that's an interesting start. Didnt mind Musgrave, but he isnt some offensive genius we should be up in arms about leaving.

It makes sense because I don't think Jack or Mark were happy with the play calling that led to DC's injury. And overall he did a solid job but it's not like the offense didn't have its faults with some predictably, lack of killer instinct until we were trailing, etc. But I can also see wanting to keep Downing. I don't think it's unrealistic to think he would have gotten a OC job elsewhere. He's been here helping Carr develop, he knows what he does well, what he struggles with, what he needs to continue to work on. I think it's the best move we could have made if we didn't want Bill back and/or he didn't want to come back. There's always a little uneasy feeling with someone who hasn't done the job before but Carr always talks highly of him and we're keeping continuity by someone in house he will have a good grasp on the areas we want upgraded over Musgrave. I would have preferred to look to replace Norton before Musgrave but I'm not going to act like we lost some irreplaceable offensive mind. With the talent we have most competent offensive coaches should have this offense productive. I don't worry about the offense honestly, as long as we add some depth on the OL and bring in some competition at TE and third WR but even without those things we should still be a high powered unit offensively. The defense needs more work and it's likely why Norton is getting another shot. Hard to run any scheme with 3 LBS that probably shouldn't be starters and injuries hitting along the DL. They'll give him another shot with an offseason focused on adding talent to the defense. It'll likely be sink or swim time for KNJ.

Does he have any experience play calling? The last thing we need is another coordinator like Norton who doesn't understand x's and o's.
