If this has been posted before I apologize, but I am trying to get a fan base opinion of the team needs.

Just the top 3 or 4.

Thanks.

We don't have a true glaring need.

We need a OLB/DE
We need another Corner
We need another wide receiver (depth guy)
We need a LT and arguably 2 guards.
We could use an upgrade at either safety position.

RG

The team has an $8.8M option on Fluker for 2017. If they don't cut him at the start of the new league year, it becomes guaranteed. That's a ton of money for a below-average starter, so I expect they'll cut him. Although Spencer Pulley could be penciled into that starting spot, I think they'll look to sign and/or draft a RG and keep Pulley as competition for Franklin, who hasn't played up to his contract either.

A big need if Melvin Ingram leaves in free agency. We'll know better what we're looking for when we see the new defensive coaching staff.

I'd have this at #3. Our current players are serviceable, but Telesco should be keeping an eye out anywhere for upgrades.

#1 LT-- Dunlap has to go. He's a 3.2M cap hit if cut early, or only 1.6M if a post-June 1st cut. It's a cap savings of at least 5M either way. Injury prone and mediocre at his best.

#2 Safety---Addae is good, but the way he plays the game, he's always going to be injury prone. Lowery was solid as well, but it's a position where I feel we need another starting caliber body, first to challenge Lowery for a starting job, then also to fill a hole when Addae inevitably gets hurt. Also, we seem to repeatedly get burned by TE and RB in the passing game, a lot of which falls on LB's (I don't need to see the back of Emanuel's jersey chasing far behind in coverage anymore) and/or scheme, but improved safety play would help.

#3 RG--Fluker is DEFINITELY NOT coming back at the current option number. Maybe we resign him for far less? Maybe Max Tuerk will be ready to step in by next year? Either way, I think the line needs more athleticism. TT built the line with only size in mind it seems, but size doesn't get you very far when you go against the great speed/athleticism the our divisional foes have. I can see a more athletic LT, with Franklin, Slauson, Tuerk/new body, and Barksdale.

#4 QB--Maybe this should be higher, IMO it's time to find and groom a starter. I've always been a firm believer that a QB should be drafted and watch for at least a year to develop optimally. Rivers has at least a couple good years left, but it's a good time to look to the future. It's the most important position in the game by far, and we're very old on the depth chart there.

Taking the assumption that Melvin Ingram is retained, I think we should should really target the Secondary and OL within the first three rounds.

Personally I would LOVE to see either Malik Hooker ( "rangy ballhawk" ) or Adams ( " Sound, Do it All " player ) with the #7 selection. If we elect to NOT draft a Safety with out 1st, then I would be ecstatic if we targeted either Budda Baker ( FS with potential to play some Nickel) or Desmond King (top Zone corner, sure tackler, some feel he can even play Safety) potentially in the 2nd.

From a pure talent standpoint I feel the current crop of Safeties on our team is the weak link. Lowery is a stop-gap and TBH I am not a big fan of his. Addae is a human missile that did show improvement this year, but he is a FA and could very likely go elsewhere. That would leave us with Adrian Phillips and Dexter McCoil, who are NOT starting caliber players. I am cool with McCoil as a project/developmental guy but if we drafted one of the guys above I would feel much better about our secondary.

I feel that the Adams vs. Hooker debate is almost like Earl Thomas vs. Berry back in "11 or "10 ( I forget what year they came out), can't really go wrong with either guy and both are impact players in different ways.

I think Adams/Hooker in the 1st with someone like the oft mentioned Garrett Bolles ( thanks Duffy) in the second would be a good way to start the draft.

If we hire someone hypothetically like Mike Smith or McDermott who are known to run a Base 4-3 and Ingram walks, maybe you look into potentially drafting someone like McDowell or Barnett to be the opposite bookend to Bosa. Move Bosa to RE and have the other guy play LE , especially McDowell (would be very reminiscent of Seattle when they used Red Bryant as a "Jumbo" SSDE early in Pete's tenure, granted McDowell offers much more potential).

Imagine a DL consisting of : Bosa (RE) - Liuget (3T) - Mebane (1T NT) - McDowell (LE). Or given Bosa's versatility he could play SSDE/LE with someone like Ingram or Attaouchu as a "LEO/Elephant" on the Weakside. Bosa also can play inside similar to Michael Bennett, Justin Tuck, etc. in sub-packages, with Mebane rotating out potentially.

I still think Jerry Attaochu can contribute to our Defense, I question prior to the injury why he was in the "doghouse" and Emmanual supplanted him (look at the snap #'s, not the whole " Emmanual played the run and Jerry was a pass rush specialist"). Hypothetically if Jim Schwartz was here with his "Wode 9" scheme, it would fit Attaouchu to a "T" IMO.

Lots of question marks right now regarding who will be our coach and scheme, but I think we will Benin good shape come draft day (as long as we don't "REACH" on another OT a la Fluker with #7).

I wouldn't be mad with Adams in the first but the ability to scream Hooker during games is just something I need more of in my life. Also Hooker as me as excited about a prospect as I've been since Cromartie.

Honestly I feel like we have a really good shot at either candidate, the only team ahead of us that I think potentially will draft a Safety would be Tennessee- but I also feel they might target Mike Williams, WR of Clemson with their 1st (they really have no weapons for Mariota except for an aging Delanie Walker).

Seems like both Hooker and Adams are in the "upper echelon" of Safety prospects with guys like: Sean Taylor, Berry, Thomas and Ramsey (although he has strictly been a CB thus far).

Only recent Safety I recall going early who hasn't "panned" out was Calvin Pryor of the Jets. Kenny Vaccarro went pretty high as well, and is a pretty good player (not a "game changer").
