So he left for the exact same job with the Jets. Cool.

Seriously? As if Bowles has that much more job security at this point. There must have been a conflict of personalities somewhere.

Yeah that's a strange one...only thing you can think is he is hoping this was a down season after Bowels went 10-6 year one but I would think this is more down to either a clash or money.

He only signed a 2 year deal with the Jets. Decent chance he could be gone too after this year with that team. They have the same mandate we do.

Hurtt knows it is unlikely that a coaching staff comes back from 9-23. Maybe most of them know that Fox is here to supervise another year of losing before the next guy comes.

Arguably our 2 best position groups lost their coaches.

I hope he gets a DC job, that would make this all make more sense.

Could be a number of reasons why he declined to stay with the Bears and went to an exactly similar situation in NYJ in terms of job security.

Could have been more money, a difference in philosophy with the current Bears defensive coaches or simply because he wanted to be closer to his home of Rochester, NY.

No reason to start thinking there's a rift on the Bears staff just because Hurtt left for another opportunity.

Could be as simple as he wanted to work with their LBs vs. ours because they might have a better chance to make him look better.

Ya we'll never really know the exact reason. It sucks that he's gone because he seemed to have been doing a great job with guys like Floyd, Young, McPhee, etc. but so is the way of the NFL. Coaches come and go all the time. If there's one thing Fox does pretty well it is finding and hiring his staff members. Not worried.

Is he an OLB coach / does he have experience with that?

Horton has always been more of a DB coach...plus he is blitz happy where as Fangio is about as conservative a 3-4 coach as you will find so I'm not sure of the fit but no doubt he would add experience and something different to the staff.

Hearing Bears have interest in Jim Tomsula, Joe Barry and/or possibly Ray Horton for position spot.

Tomsula was a fool as a HC. But on defense he's a damn good coach.

Tomsula would be great but I though him and Fangio classed towards the end in San Fran...

Joe Barry shouldn't be in the NFL.

Did they? Didnt Tomsula want to keep him or was that the 49ers management?

Could have been more down to that...I just remember a lot of bad feeling coming out of San Fran when Tomsula got promoted to HC from being a position coach over Fangio as the DC.
