The Osweiler signing has obviously proven to be horrific, but you can at least see what they were trying to do there given our dubious history at the position. Letting homegrown RG Brandon Brooks walk heading into his prime and replacing him with absolute garbage replacement level player like Jeff Allen for a mere $1 million difference in salary is the one that fails on every possible level of analysis. I can at least see the logic in swapping out an average player like Ben Jones for a potential young star in Nick Martin, but to patiently develop Brooks into a borderline pro bowler then let him walk over far less than what we are paying guys who barely see the field like Akeem Dent just defies any explanation. Continuity alone should have dictated keeping Brooks over Allen, but the talent gap vs. pay gap is absolutely extraordinary.

Maybe getting benched really helped Brock. He probably had the free time to do the math and realize he wasn't gonna see half of that 72 million if he didnt step it up.

Quote:
In the Bill O'Brien era, the Texans are 18-0 when they lead at halftime, including 5-0 in the 2016 regular season. They're the only NFL team that hasn't lost in a game they led at halftime during that span, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Certainly a hopeful sign.

Yeah he's gotta go.

i agree, it just sucks because the only way he was getting fired was for us to get blown out again today, and thats not happening. You dont fire a 3rd year coach who keeps taking a step forward(playoff wise).

If O'Brien gets fired and Rick Smith stays, there needs to be a criminal investigation. He needs to give up playcalling and fire Godsey, but there is not a coach in the NFL that has overcome more incompetence from the front office and still kept a team motivated and winning than BoB. I think it is much more plausible that O'Brien throws in the towel and quits when the McNair's refuse to fire their GM who has checked every possible box of failure (aside from the one they care about which is profits).

O'Brien would instantly become the #1 coach on the market and could walk into SF, SD, or LA with the ability to exert some real control over personnel matters and not have to constantly work around deficiencies handed to him from above. At least ownership in LA & SF know they have to put a decent product on the field to fill their billion $ palaces + wherever SD ends up, while it has become abundantly clear the McNair's are content to just hold their well timed investment in the Texans and cash in on seemingly endless well of goodwill over bringing football back to Houston. Denver job is 10x the Texans gig, but lil Shanny makes too much sense for that inbred crew for it not to happen.

Buffalo GM situation is only one worse than Texans (Doug Whaley is Rick Smith 1.1) so that won't happen, but honestly I could see O'Brien very intrigued by freedom in Jacksonville and could actually get Bortles back on the right track and quickly improve by building a running game. Remember, O'Brien's mentor (and best friend) George O'Leary was Bortles coach at UCF, so don't discount it or the level of frustration O'Brien has to have working under such a ineffectual corporate lackey like Rick Smith. Ryan Grigson may be the only GM worse than the Whaley/Smith clones, so the AFC South is still ez pickings (I won't take Tenn seriously until the Adams daughters cash out) and they might actually have enough talent to make a meaningful impact in the playoffs.

Brock with back to back decent games. This is scaring me into thinking we are going to give him another season....which to be fair, I dont think we have had a QB get to end a season as starter and start the next season as starter. Maybe he does have something in him, who knows

We need to give Boyue whatever he wants in the off season. We have to keep him, hes locking down one of the best young WRs in the league
