Nope

He'll either be an analyst or an OC for a year then go back to college. I doubt he gets another head coaching gig in the pros for a while.

He will be the HC at Notre Dame when Brian Kelly is gone.

This would be the perfect situation for Josh McDaniels and Nick Caserio tbh.

Yeah, McDaniels would love this spot.

McDaniels would be pretty stupid to go to the 49ers. Their offensive roster is a disaster and their owner is among the worst in all of pro sports. He'd be fired before the end of his 3rd year.

Agreed. Jacksonville and San Diego would be better options.

The 49ers will have 4 head coaches in 4 years Shocked

Curse of Jim Harbaugh. Remember when they (reportedly) chose Trent Baalke over Harbaugh2?

13-3 CC game loss, 12 win super bowl loss, 11-4-1 CC game loss, 8-8 -> fired

Hard to say what impact Harbaugh could have had on the decimation of that roster, but man, hindsight does not make that move look any better and it looked awful at the time.

Maybe they'll interview Anthony Davis before they sign either coach or GM, to make sure they have his full and unconditional approval, so that he may launch his latest comeback.

Humorously enough, no team has done the 4 coaches in 4 years things since....well, that would still be us. The 49ers had 6 coaches in 5 years from 75 - 79.

- Nolan resigned after 1975.
Bill Walsh in 1979

Never underestimate the bounds of our idiocy. We didn't quite understand it in the forum either. It's stupid. MY guess is that though we are interviewing quite a few candidates, the only ones who are viable candidates are the ones who come in pairs as GM and coach. The rest is window dressing. Otherwise, we may actually hire a coach before hiring a GM Confused

Honestly, some teams should consider firing their coach for Kelly at the college level. Tennessee and Auburn, for example.

Looks like Kelly is going back to college. Cal has offered him the job.

As for the 49ers... no respected HC/GM is going to want to work for York. 49ers will have to settle for a re-tread or a young/inexperienced guy hoping to break thru. If I'm the 49ers I'd go for the latter.

Is there a quote where it's been offered? He was immediately linked to it, but I haven't heard anythign about them reaching out to him or offering him anything. Saw that they named an interim coach.

Caserio and Ballard either declined or permission wasn't granted.

But do you consider guys like Wolf, Gutekunst, Paton, Fitterer, Kirchner or Beane respected? No doubt working under York isn't the most ideal situation, but I think you still get solid GM candidates just for the simple fact jobs don't open up all that often. There are six HC vacancies but only one GM opening.

Bolded: Organizations cannot deny individuals the opportunity to interview for GM with all authoritative decision making responsibilities or HC positions, per the CBA. If they're not interviewing, they're either not afforded enough contractual authority or they're simply not interested.

The 49ers may have a harder time hiring him, however, as the Chiefs have refused to allow Ballard to interview with the 49ers until their season ends.

The Chiefs do have the right to deny interviews up until the season is over. After that he could take the interview. But I think in his case, he just may not be all that interested in the job.

Last year the Packers denied Wolf an interview with the Lions GM position.

I assumed you were talking about an outside denial to interview, not a delay. That's different altogether.

Yes and once upon a time NO denied current Chicago GM Ryan Pace from interviewing for the vacant Miami GM position because it didn't represent a clear promotion in terms of authority, as the structure there wasn't conducive to full authority over personnel coaching decisions (Which eventually went to Mike Tannebaum a year or so later if I remember correctly though I may not, as I don't pay much attention to Miami or the AFC East). Detroit obviously did not indicate this as at the time of request.
