And we got our answer in if Shanahan wants full control or not Laughing.

You're overqualified with a master's degree now

On the bright side, we can be hopeful on his drafting ability (easier to do that with a guy who has no drafting history than one who has a mediocre one)

Haha that and he's one of my favorite players ever.

Very, very weird turn of events. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered the job to Paton and he turned it down, then they didn't feel comfortable with McDonough so they panicked and went to option M or N or O or whatever the hell John Lynch was.

But I'm not sure if it really matters. Kyle Shanahan now runs this team. If anybody thinks that Lynch will have more personnel power than Shanahan, then I'd have to say that they are probably wrong.

I guess its a good thing that there werent any leaky sources bringing this up, but man does this feel out of left field.

John Lynch as the 49ers GM is an interesting choice but i'll be optimistic

Jed and Paraag have found their yes-man

What's this in reference to? Did they hire some one?

Yes. John Lynch. The TV analyst

I can't imagine anyone in here actually tries to defend this move Laughing

I'll try. On its face it appears like a terrible move. Mostly because of the length and the fact that there does not appear to be any experience doing the job. However, he has a championship pedigree and he played with many great players. There is youth on his side to pair with Shanahan maybe Shana handful brings his pops along to mentor? Was he the head coach when Lynch played there? Is there any connection there?

Now none of it makes him a good evaluator of talent, but at the same time, none of it disqualifies him from having the potential to be good.

It's not a great argument, but as fans, we can't do anything but wait and see.

And it is a six year deal Laughing.

I could see some Shanahan connection there but this definitely came out of left field.

Don't like it.

Shanahan is probably getting a 10 year deal.

I'd think he will get a six year deal as well. These two will be tied at the hip.

John Lynch said "Kyle comes off arrogant in his interviews" - I've heard that as well. Hasn't come off well during this process

Truthfully, i think this is the move you make because of one of two things:

1. Nobody wanted the job and you started to get desperate. There was already talk that Paton may not take the job if offered...maybe it was the case for both of them.

2. They wanted to make gamble the gm, but the optics were bad after jed said we were going outside the organization. They dont want the pr backlash, so you have him as asst gm, he handmes scouting, most of the personnel, etc.

Okay, 3 reasons. The third would be that this is a big push by shanny

Wouldn't rule out the Niners trying to bring in Mark Dominik to backstop the Lynch hire. Dominik worked with both Shanny and Lynch in Tampa.

I was just going to bring this up. With a first time GM, I was thinking they would bring Dominik to help him out.

SoCal, that is taken out of context. His next sentence was who cares if he is arrogant, he could flat out coach.

Well, the rumor on Lil Shanny is that he likes to surround himself with "yes men." Him and Jed appear to have that in common.

At the end of the day, your success will come down to Lil Shanny either ways.

So we'll have a FO quartet of Lynch, Gamble, Dominik, and Marathe.

Not getting my hopes up.....

Per source new 49ers G.M. John Lynch will hire a personnel specialist as his No. 2. He already knows who it will be.

Also, another perspective:

I'm going to go the opposite direction of how I think public may view this, but I'm going to commend the 49ers on thinking out of the box.

Here's the thing. Titles have a way of misleading people as to what a person's real job is. General Manager doesn't mean same for every team

General Manager for Washington vs. Dallas are 2 totally different jobs. New England doesn't even have one. "A rose by any other name...

John Lynch can lead an organization and build an impressive front office of scouts and evaluators in exactly the same way Elway has.

I would think the SF did some serious vetting and had long conversations with Lynch about organizational structure.
