I think the qbs are stronger in this class than last years class and I could really only see Chicago possibly wanting to leap frog San Francisco if they fall in love with a QB. However, that would leave the 49ers to take Garrett and the jags to take Allen or a running back. If they take Allen, you lose out on the best two defensive linemen in the draft. If they take fournette, you could draft Allen and still have the kings ransom from Chicago to continue building.

It's the smarter move to trade number one as football is more of a team game than basketball (referring to the lebron comment, which is an interesting argument). And with the way your front office is set up these days, I could see it as a real possibility. Still, trading away the Calvin Johnson of defensive ends is a nerve wrecking proposition.

Best case scenario:

#4. Jonathan Allen
#10 (from Phi). Jamal Adams
#33.
#36 (from Chi).
#49 (from Ten).

2018 - 1st rounder from Chicago
2018 - 3rd rounder from Chicago

Worst case scenario:

#4. Leonard Fournette
#10 (from Phi). Jamal Adams
#33.
#36 (from Chi).
#49 (from Ten).

2018 - 1st rounder from Chicago
2018 - 3rd rounder from Chicago

If I'm a GM, I'm interested in trading it. can't wait for April!

Keep the top pick. I'm open to trading the Eagles pick if Jamal Adams & Reuben Foster are gone.

But if we trade away a chance at Garrett, I'm going to sever Sashi's head.

BTC never fails in taking hyperbole 6 steps too far.

At least we've moved on from aborted baby fetuses to severing heads....

One of these days I'm going to take a soft stance...we're getting better.

Garrett, is a close to a sure thing for consistently awesome production as anyone in the draft in the last 5 years bar maybe Luck.

He has the talent to be a 150 sack guy, if healthy could be hitting 10 sacks into the 2030's.

I am always open to trading any pick/player at any time. Question is, what's the offer?

I know this though. If we do keep #1 and use it on a player, then I BADLY want to trade the Eagles pick and get a 2018 1st while staying in the 2017 1st round.

Jimmy G stays with New England this year.
We draft Garrett at #1 (out on a limb there).
We trade back from 12 for another 2018 1st.
We do NOT draft a QB in the first 2 rounds.

If we trade the top pick we have to bend someone over and rape them.

Garret is not the sort of prospect you pass on unless the return is amazing

Agreed without the rape reference.

We have usually crapped the bed with our trade downs anyway.

We missed out on Khalil Mack for Justin Gilbert.

We have done a pretty good job at winning the initial trade. Then we go and make a pick and it's all down the toilet from that point

We haven't exactly done a bang up job drafting players with our original high picks either.

A lot of the trade downs we made were good trades. I would still do those trades if I had a time machine, and just not pick bums.

If we took all our crappy high picks and could turn back the clock and trade them, then take all the trade downs we made and stand pat while picking the Julio's and Macks of the world, we would be 14-1 not 1-14.

Oh well. That is what we get for being run by idiots for 15 years.

More than idiots I think that's what happens when you have constant turnover.

Every time we reboot people are pissed when the new regime has a lot of misses in their first draft. It's as if they expect a group of guys who are all new to their positions (in most cases), just getting to know each other, may not even have their scouts in place and have no idea how players on the current roster fit their system to just come on in and kick some arse and take names on draft day.

In my head I'm just thinking "do you remember the first few months on your job?" . I'm guessing most of us are better at our jobs after a couple years of experience, no? Why are these guys supposed to be different?

None of this is directed at you duke, your post just got me thinking about it.

Our defense is atrocious, we've already built a war chest of high picks already, the no brainer here is to stay put at #1 and pull the trigger. We can't keep trying to get too cute and punt future success down the road, we have been an unwatchable team this year and need to add some blue chip talent to our roster.

Yeah, this isn't okay. "Rape" references will get formal warnings. Consider this notice.

Yeah if we don't take a QB, we need to trade one of the 1sts for a 1st next year. Until we get a QB we need ammo to trade up to get one.

For you guys saying some team would trade up to take a QB #1 and giving up a ton to do it, why on this freaking earth would we just not take said QB? If he's worth a ton of draft picks to give up then he is worth it for us to just take him. Just because you guys don't like any of the QBs this year doesn't mean the NFL teams don't. Although a couple in here I swear NEVER like any of the QBs coming out Laughing I mean aren't we a QB needy team?
