US Bank Stadium is still going to be one of the toughest buildings for opponents to play in, and the Vikings should have a chance to go 8-0 at home. Coming off a 10-6 season, Green Bay holds the best record of teams coming to town next year.

The key will be winning on the road. That's where most of the tough games will be. Important to not go 0-fer in road division games.

Home field advantage is one of those things that good teams have going for them. Good teams seldom lose at home. Poor teams, doesn't make nearly as much difference. We saw that already last season at US Bank when the Vikings were good and then became awful.

This seasons record will be determined by one thing...and unfortunately, it's not in anyone's control. Injuries! The Vikings could've been an 11 win team last year if the offensive line had stayed healthy.

Nah. Injuries are just the icing on the cake. You can be terrible without injuries. We've seen it out of this very franchise in recent memory. And you can be very good, even with a few injuries, if you have some depth, as several well-managed franchises have shown in the past. Sustaining as many injuries as the Vikings had last year was just bad luck, and you don't expect that level of bad luck to strike again very soon.

This team wasn't awful. An awful team wouldn't be one play away from beating the Cowboys like the Vikings were late last year.

The Vikings had one awful home game, but they absolutely still had a significant home-field advantage.

Going 5-3 at home on the season does not suggest a significant home field advantage. Losing 3 of their last 5 home games, including including that crushing 34-6 loss to the Colts, would suggest otherwise.

I guess you glossed over the first part of that post you quoted, because it puts that record into more context.

Your claim they weren't awful, because they came "close" to winning a game?

Please. They lost that game at home. Even with your supposed "significant" home field advantage.

The team went into the tank. And when a team is playing poorly, all the noise and all the fans wearing their team's jerseys don't make a whole lot of difference.

@christomasson: Datone jones said he definitely will be a three technique defensive tackle for Vikings

I just can't call the 2016 Vikings an awful team.

It was an unprecedented year. From the QB going down to a fluke injury to trading for another team's starter 8 days before the opener to the franchise RB going down in Week 2 to not having a OL group play three consecutive games together to the offensive coordinator resigning out of the blue during the year to the head coach suffering a major eye injury and missing a game.

Honestly, to still go 8-8 after that should be viewed as an accomplishment, not awful.

8-8 is far from awful.

By the end of the season they were pretty f'n awful. Or maybe they were a great team that was just beaten up and beaten down.

They looked like shoe-ins for the Super Bowl for about a month. So there's that, I guess.

Going into the "tank" generally means that a team gave up. Is that your position on the 2016 team?
Truthfully, I am amazed that the team won 8 games last season. Bringing in a new starting QB with limited time to prepare. Crushing injuries to the offensive line...including depth players...a knee injury to the starting running back in the 3rd game. The quitting of the offensive coordinator in mid-season. The head coach out a game with emergency eye surgery. Tell me what other team has had that amount of stuff to work through that still won 8 games?
You may not like it, but I'm giving a pass to the 2016 Vikings. The team will be better in 2017 barring all the events like above happening again.

You're amazed that a team that began the season 5-0 and looking like they were unbeatable, ended the season with 8 wins? If so, you're very easily amazed.

And yet you're calling that same team that "began the season 5-0 and looking like they were unbeatable" awful.
