The good ole days are back fellas! Back to the days where we start looking forward to the draft during the season. So who's your guy?!

Or are you still holding out for some wins to turn this thing around? I'd like to hear from those folks too. Me personally, I can't get up for these games. I'm still gonna watch but we're so bad I can't pull myself to hope for a playoff push.

I imagine we use our eventual top 10 pick (maybe even top 5) on a player to bolster the either of the lines. As Gettleman says, big men help you compete. And right now we sure have a deficiency of big men.

Myles Garrett is one that will get a lot of mention. He'd definitely help the defense get back to our standard of build a dominant front 7 so the defensive backfield isn't relied upon as heavily. And it's not hard to envision him falling to us with the other horrible football teams all needing QB's (Browns, Jets, Bears, Niners).

While I could see that being the move, I also wonder how long we can continue to kick the can down the line with the offense. The offensive line has been an afterthought for years now. A guy like Cam Robinson would do wonders for Cam Newton. And if we continue to trot out these guys who can't get separation along with Shula's long developing, deep play offense Cam will need all the time he can get in the pocket.

A wild card approach to the draft I could see would be to get weapons to take pressure off Cam. I'm not sure to what degree the team feels they need to take Cam out of the running game, but if last week was an indicator they might be fearing his shelf life as it relates to the beating he takes. Among the problems I have with that approach is the fact that Jonathan Stewart just cant make it through a season. We could continue to rely upon Fozzy and CAP but I could definitely see Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook or Christian McCaffery being options for us to electrify our offense.

So I guess that's the comforting part about being bad this season. We've got a lot of options in areas that we need filling. So provided that we don't make a crap decision, things should be looking better moving forward.

I gotta be honest. I don't see how the answer could be anyone but Myles Garrett.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be mad if we took Robinson. But defense is a bigger issue than offense right now and we need a pass rusher. Garrett is arguably the best one to come out in ages.

Gettleman made the same assumption that we did. He assumed Kony Ealy had turned the corner and a healthy Charles Johnson would provide a great Rush with what looked to be a stout defensive tackle tandem.

Any defensive backfield is going to look bad when there is no semblance of a pass rush.

Josh Norman or no Josh Norman, it's the defensive lines surprising ineptitude that is causing these losses

I think we need to trade KK short 4 Daniel Hunter. If minnesota even makes that trade. Let's be honest Vernon Butler was drafted as shorts replacement. We need Edge presence and our defensive secondary correctes itself. Not only that, but can develope, over the years, to be a servicable young secondary... and not just a revolving door of veteran cast offs.

We need offensive tackles too... but we are barely losing these games and it is predominantly due to our lack of pass rush

Myles Garrett will probably go in the top 3 picks depending on the teams that need QBs (CLE, CHI, NYJ, SF). If the season stays the same way, I could see us getting 5-6 wins which would put us near the #10 pick.

Bottom line, I don't think we have a shot at Garrett. I would love to be able to but I just don't see us being able to lose out to those teams.

Here's a couple names to look at

OT - Robinson, McGlinchey
CB - Tabor, Humphrey
S - Peppers (probably too high), Adams, Hooker

Still a lot of the season to play out, we could come on strong at the end and pick in the late teens.

If the season goes the same way, I don't see any way we muster out 4-5 more wins. I could see us beating the Rams in a slug-fest, but we don't have any favorable match-ups the rest of the way (mainly because we're bad and because we play a lot of high powered offenses). Finishing with a top 3 pick isn't the most likely thing, but I definitely see us in the top five.

Offensive Tackle. All of them. Draft any that are eligible, throw them into a locked room, and the last two alive make the team.

DE, OT. That has to be the focus. A HB somewhere as well.

That has been the focus since Hardy and Gross left... we've been waiting, each year, for those positions to be addressed.

We will probably draft another DT.

We NEED to draft edge rush and Edge protection

There is no position group older or in more need.

RB is a gimme FA aquisition.

They are cheap, expendable and totally reliant on oline.

Someone needs to dust up on their classic R&B...

Let me translate: I realize that we need Garrett, but I want Fournette. You don't need to explain to me why a DE/OT is more important than a RB.

I got the reference... just continuing the debate.

side note - my body is also telling me Fournette...

Sure would be nice to have an AP caliber RB with Cams talent.

What would that do when we have no outside oline to block for him.

I agree with the posts above. DE and OT are our min concerns and what we need to address in the draft, please no reaches though.
