Here's another reason why to fire Payton.

We go up 21-0 on the Panthers, 3&1/2 minutes left to go in the half and Payton calls 3 passes in a row. Seriously, dude? Wear that D out!! That alone let the Panthers back in before half.

Now, the second half is showing our D is who we thought they were, nothing.

Panthers are climbing back into this, and I'm sure they'll win. 17-24...... nice job... offensive genius.

If we had lost that game he needed to have been fired today.

It really makes for a head scratcher as to why they handed him a $45 million extension. I mean I guess you don't really want your players to go around wondering about the future, but that's a hefty payment to a guy coming off of 2 consecutive 7-9 seasons.

I'm sure Payton could do well with another team if he got let go, but that certainly doesn't mean that keeping him is in the Saints' best interest. I just think Payton, like Mike McCarthy now and possibly Mike Tomlin or even John Harbaugh ... well maybe not yet for him, but still just an overall sense of staleness on the team, as many call it. At some point the deck's gotta be rearranged and with what appears to be another 7-win or less season coming, if it bears out that way, I think you gotta consider letting him walk and eating the last $36 million, though it also depends on what they decide with Brees.

Well they'll keep Brees. I don't think any coach/GM in their right mind would get rid of him at this point. He's 2nd in yards and tied for 1st in TD's, so that's not a problem, and you don't get rid of that production.

Payton....... uh, what do I say. 3rd 4-4 start in a row. We've seen this groundhog day and we've seen the "promise" only to be let down.

We have a fun roster on offense, and a good crew on defense. Hard to look anywhere but coaching.... and a little GM.

"this close" just isn't cutting it with this roster, in my opinion.

I will admit that I have been after Payton's job for a year or so now but honestly I've been impressed with him and this young team he has. Are they exceptional? No! However I see growth and potential here but sadly he's still making the same old poor personal decisions in the offseason that begin to haunt him during the season.

Here we are again. I can't stomach the lack of consistency with Payton, the lack of respect he garners from his players, and the lack of imagination with play calling.

Now, Cooks is pissy because of it. At the end of the day, I'd like to have Cooks' talent over the embarrassment Sean Payton has become.

Ditch Payton before Payton deals Cooks away!

I'm not crazy bout Payton, but Cooks is an [inappropriate/removed] for acting like he has.

That's fine, but you also have to look at reasons why. This isn't just a one game thing. It's obvious there's a clash between Payton & Cooks. We've seen it many time with Payton, whether it's with players or coaches.

There's always a common denominator with this team when we struggle, and it's always Payton.

Mark Ingram averaging 6 yards per carry had 6 carries going into the 4th.

Offensive mastermind!

Yep. Well said.

I dont agree with the way Cooks is handling things, but hes far from the first person to butt heads with Payton. Hes hard to work with, that much is apparent.

Payton is a straight up garbage play caller. He designs great plays, but he uses them atrociously and gets way the [inappropriate/removed] too cute.

Funny but the moment I heard that Jeff Fisher was fired today the first thing that popped into my mind was that Sean Payon would be ideal for that job!!!

1. He loved Goff in the draft.
2. He's rumored to covet a west cost job (SF last year).
3. Can't get more west coast than LA.
4. Tavon Austin in the Cooks role... yes please!
5. Gurley would give Payton the best back he's ever had!
6. The Rams defense is loaded.
7. Payton would give the LA fans the high flying offense they crave.
8. Jeff Fisher had personal power... Payton could get it too.
9. I'm sure some sort of compensation can be agreed on.
10. LA needs a big name to excite the fan base... Payton is still a big name.
