I have to say I like the fact that this coaching staff is willing to put more faith in their rookies than in past years.

I know someone is going to mention last year with Collins and Flower but imho that was more out of necessity than belief in the rookies.

I thought it would be cool to keep track of their stats over the course of the year and discuss their progress.

Just as a reminder, here are the picks:

Quote:

1 10 Eli Apple CB Ohio State 6' 0" 205
2 40 Sterling Shepard WR Oklahoma 5' 10" 190
3 71 Darian Thompson S Boise State 6' 1" 205
4 109 B.J. Goodson ILB Clemson 6' 0" 250
5 149 Paul Perkins* RB UCLA 5' 11" 200
6 184 Jerell Adams TE South Carolina 6' 5" 235

Obviously I couldn't pick Goodson, Perkins or Adams out of a Police Lineup. They haven't seen the field at all. If anyone can offer some insight or analysis on them that would be great.

The great thing about this question is you can choose any one of our first 3 draft picks and you wouldn't be wrong. They have all played great in the first two games. It's a small sample size but JR looks absolutely right taking Eli Apple at #10. Shepard makes this receiving corps complete and Darian Thompson's main goal is to just keep everything in front of him and we haven't given up any big plays.

It's very early but this draft class could be JR's best yet.

From what I'm seeing in 2 games, I would rather have gotten Shephard at 10, but that's just me

Seems like that may have been more appropriate. But they've both played well so far and we got both of them so who cares how/where we got them? I've been impressed by all of our top 3 rookies. They've all received a ton of playing times thus far and have all impressed.

Apple tied Jenkins for the most snaps at CB (more than DRC) against the Saints, and didn't give up any big plays against a lethal passing attack. That's a noteworthy accomplishment.

I've never understood this. Who cares where he was drafted. If they were going to be our first two picks does it really matter what order we drafted them in?

Was thinking the same thing. Why would you be more thrilled to get a guy at #10 you ended up getting at #40?

Because you get him for an extra year cheap on the rookie contract.

At this point, I'd rather have Shephard at 10 than Apple.

I liked that he is starting but I still have reservations about the dude.

Extra year of Shep
Average #40 pick

or

Extra year of Apple
Shep

I'd take Apple over a mid-2nd + extra year of Shep quite easily.

A few things.

1. Updated the stats after today's game.

2. Anyone know what's going with Thompson and Goodson?

3. Should I start tracking Roger Lewis. Seems like the Giants are slowly working him into the rotation.

This question is so hard. Eli Apple has truly impressed me and we all know I went insane when we took him over Tunsil. He has shown he is a solid player and can be a guy to rely on. Shepard by far has been awesome. This guy truly gives us the 3 headed monster at WR. To me the skys the limit for him. Thompson is future baller no doubt.

Sheppard looked decent and Apple just was a liability.

I definitely want to see more of Perkins.

Apple had a very good game against the Bears. He got beat bad on one play. Other than that he played extremely well and is the unquestioned #2 CB on this team now. He deserves some credit.

Andrew Adams is not on the list and he has been SOLID.

I don't have any of the UDFAs here bud. I was thining of adding them, but my main issue with your Adams comment is that aside from the Eagles game, he is largely invisible.
