Tackles Solo Sacks Tackles/Loss FF FR Interceptions
331 178 25.5 50 7 4 4

Impressive numbers especially for an off ball LB. Steven Taylor is a physically gifted player who is cerebral in his attack. Dude is criminally under rated and should be drafted in the 2nd round. He does it all and at a high level. When comparing him to other ILBs, most are bigger and that's the only difference. Taylor has more sacks than Tyus Bowser, his team mate whom many feel the Steelers could draft in round 1. Steelers love o blitz their ILBs and this guy is special in that regard. I can't find his pro day reults but he looks like he weighs 235 and possibly run 4.65ish.

He seems OK but not that excited. Maybe in the later rounds.

I'm interested in Ryan Anderson as an ILB if he drops to us in the 3rd.

"Very, very consistent performer," Tide coach Nick Saban said of Anderson. "He can probably play inside 'backer or outside 'backer, and he's got some pass rush ability, so I think his versatility as a player creates a lot of value for him."

That's why I've always compared Anderson to Hightower. Valuable chess piece that does many things well. A couple things have me wondering if Steelers are even interested. 1) Anderson had a DV charge that was dismissed 2) He's not a super athlete 3) He was in video with Wallace Gilberry in which Deshawn Watson was forced out of a bar in Alabama. Minor things except for the DV accusation but does it all add up in their eyes?

I wish Steelers give Akil Blount an opportunity to challenge Vince Williams for playing time. Blount is 6'2 245 ran a 4.61 in the 40 yard dash, a 1.63 10 yard split in 4, a 40" vertical, 30 reps of 225 pounds, and 7.15 in 3 Cone drill. But more importantly, he knows how to play football. Oh yeah, he is the son of Steelers HOF Mel Blount.

Montana FS Yamen Sanders 6'4 215: Explosive. Can play man defense well. Can flip and cross his hips covering in patterns. Long arms play ball well. Good closing speed. Smart player that sees the field. Has limited starting experience but is solid ST player. Diamond in the rough type player.
Pro Day numbers: 40- 4.56/1.60 10 yard split, 24 reps of 225, 42" vertical, 10-4 in broad jump, 4.44/11.72 in 20/60 shuttle, and 7.35 in 3 cone.

Alabama State OT Jylan Ware 6'7 315: I wasn't going to scout OL because I feel the Steelers have an amazing OL with great depth in their backups. I came across Jylan's film around the same time I discovered Roderick Henderson. I fell in love with a nasty big hitting OL but figured we didn't need him. I was drawn to his film today and watched the entire thing as goose bumps built inside of me. This guy is special! Very special!

Very powerful. When he blocks you, you go backwards. Has amazing leg drive and finishes his blocks with a nastiness that Steelers OL have been playing with lately. His slide and mirror is damn near perfect. He squats and jabs like a boxer as he keeps the defender away from him. No lunging or turning too soon as he battles speed rushers. When you watch this film, you will probably rewind it to see how he got to the 2nd and 3rd levels and executed some of these blocks. He is a technician that has brute power and that is so hard to find. He pulls and is able to square up DBs and torment their souls as he pulverizes them into the turf. I saw NO weakness in his technique. Yes he played at Alabama State but Jerry Rice played at Mississippi Valley State. Honestly, I would have NO objections if he was our pick at 30. This guy is a perfect clone of Tyron Smith! Do me a favor and find his weaknesses because I couldn't.

Thanks for the link. Don't know that much about Blount, but for reasons you mentioned, I'm sure the Steelers will give him every opportunity. He's got good size, length and speed and looks like a very sound tackler. I hope he develops into a pro-quality player.

The Hightower/Anderson comparison is apt I think. Anderson's a tick less explosive & fast as well as over an inch shorter on his arms. Obviously not the physical specimen that Hightwower is, but that is why he might still be in play in the 3rd and Hightower was a slam-dunk 1st rounder. Agree, RA could be a versatile piece on the defense. That could be a hedge on doubling down at OLB. Not sure about the character stuff, but the fact that the charges were dropped is a good sign.

Marshall OLB Gary Thompson 6'0 269: Power. Relentless. Very explosive off the snap. Advanced pass rusher in using hands. Ran a 4.74 with a 1.64 10 yard split, 26 reps of 225, and 31" vertical.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbs3j3WWQJk

Virginia Tech OLB Ken Ekanem OLB 6'3 243: Explosive. Uses hands well. Has the ability to turn small corners against OTs. Can rush from interior of defense. Good motor. I would like him to be nastier.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeQl1gNvyHg

San Diego State University DE/LB Alex Barrett 6'2 255: Explosive. Good hand use. Motor always running. Played similar role to Anthony Chickilo in being undersized DE in a 3 DL front. Needs to get stronger but I feel this is a guy who will make his mark on ST and become a good player who will be starting on defense.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCZty0K5sPU

Washington OLB Joe Mathis 6'2 255: Solid. Strong. Relentless. Uses his hands well. Developed body. Not overly explosive but gets the job done.
http://draftbreakdown.com/video/joe-mathis-vs-boise-state-2015/

Kent State OLB Terence Waugh 6'1 262: Quick. Strong hands. Can turn the corner. Isn't long like the Steelers have been leaning to lately. Interesting guy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_rIcIg7eDM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PotCSG9i-Bw

Pittsburg OLB Ejuan Price 6' 260: Short so has natural leverage. Very muscular build. Twitchy. Explosive and can wade through traffic well. Natural flexibility to turn the corner. Will get swallowed up at times.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIqN25AT8Pg

Wisconsin OLB Vince Biegel 6'4 246: High energy player. Not overly strong. Has long arms. Can shed blocks well at times. His film is too up & own for my liking. He may be a better fit at MLB.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRY6d4duaJA

Miami (FLA)OLB Al-Quadin Muhammad 6'4 250: Quick. Very smooth athlete. High energy player. Needs to get stronger. Needs to get off blocks faster. Has a nice bull rush when he extends his arms and can drive with power. No counters after speed rush is stopped. Needs to use hands better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8QCncPBe0w

Southern Illinois OLB Khari Waithe-Alexander 6'2 240: Quick. Relentless. Can turn the corner with ease. Takes good angles. Active hands. More of a speed player. Will slide down over interior OL and give them fits with his quickness.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-7EQtTKE3Y

West Georgia OLB Dylan Donahue 6'2 243: Good motor. Combo pass rusher. Can win inside or outside. Can flatten and turn the corner. Not enough film to see him vs the run.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4qCxoy9leU

South Carolina OLB Darius English 6'6 230: Lanky build. Quickness is his game. Nonstop motor. His speed rush is impressive. Long arms protect him from the OTs getting into his chest. Bull rush is ok but needs to get better. Needs to use counters faster. Obviously he needs to gain more weight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO5M7lkA8vQ

Colorado OLB Jimmie Gilbert 6'4 225: Finesse rusher but while surprise with power. Relentless. Very fluid in back pedal while dropping into zone coverage. Uses his hands well to get off blocks. Smart player. Fluid athlete. Has little to no power in bull rush. Needs to get bigger and stronger.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIb1X-FQviE

Western Michigan OLB Keion Adams 6'2 245: Tasmanian devil! Wicked nasty & quick spin move. Relentless. Has multiple pass rush moves. Can go from speed to spin in an instant. Hand placement & rush technique is very good. Can bend and flatten to get after the QB. Confident. Needs Coach Porter to turn up his intensity to another level.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xle8yF0PMvk

Arkansas State OLB Chris Odom 6'4 256: Power. Quickness. Active hands and advanced pass rush techniques. Can go speed to power and also has flexibility to get upfield. Great motor. Arkansas State has some nice athletes who flash. Odom finished with 12.5 sacks in 2016.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnOAwNy-M5s

There are many more to look at. It all depends on what you like in a football player. I'm not a big 3 cone guy so some of these guys have not so good times in that drill but they all produce on the field.

They spoke to Beigel at a Wisconsin pro day and haveAdams coming in for visit...that makes 3-4 mid to late rd LBs already scheduled to visit or have visit.

I'm banking on that spaghetti theory here:

Pick a bunch of guys later and throw them against a wall and see which one sticks.

Jones' only chance is to go to Tenn. Otherwise he is flipping burgers this fall.

I think they're double dipping...1 Day 1 or Day 2 pick and another dice roll sometime day 3...maybe someone to push Chick or Moats off the roster.

Plus, save for last year, they've had a habit of bringing in late rd-UDFA types for visits, and then drafting/signing a few.

Alabama State OC Kerry Williams 6'1 316: Squatty. Powerful. Plays wih good leverage. Can pull better than most Guards. Can get to 2nd and 3rd levels. Can reach and perform turn blocks with ease. Has great feet and moves like a polar bear. Very nasty and loves to punish and flatten defenders.

Good stuff, Armsteeld. Thanks - I'll take a gander at these guys.

Ok, hypothetical: Our pick in the 6th round. Assuming we already got a top tier EDGE rusher in the 1st or 2nd, who do you take here as a double dip?

Hand placement & rush technique is very good. Can bend and flatten to get after the QB. Confident. Needs Coach Porter to turn up his intensity to another level.

There are many more to look at. It all depends on what you like in a football player. I'm not a big 3 cone guy so some of these guys have not so good times in that drill but they all produce on the field.

Good stuff, Armsteeld. Thanks - I'll take a gander at these guys.

Ok, hypothetical: Our pick in the 6th round. Assuming we already got a top tier EDGE rusher in the 1st or 2nd, who do you take here as a double dip?

Javancy Jones. I see an explosive high energy football player in Jones. He is an edge rusher but scheme diverse enough to play DE & MLB. Just watch him talk and feel his passion about life and the game of football. He has that southern Mississippi charm😎

Marshall OLB Gary Thompson 6'0 269: Power. Relentless. Very explosive off the snap. Advanced pass rusher in using hands. Ran a 4.74 with a 1.64 10 yard split, 26 reps of 225, and 31" vertical.

Virginia Tech OLB Ken Ekanem OLB 6'3 243: Explosive. Uses hands well. Has the ability to turn small corners against OTs. Can rush from interior of defense. Good motor. I would like him to be nastier.

Washington OLB Joe Mathis 6'2 255: Solid. Strong. Relentless. Uses his hands well. Developed body. Not overly explosive but gets the job done.

Kent State OLB Terence Waugh 6'1 262: Quick. Strong hands. Can turn the corner. Isn't long like the Steelers have been leaning to lately. Interesting guy.

Western Michigan OLB Keion Adams 6'2 245: Tasmanian devil! Wicked nasty & quick spin move. Relentless. Has multiple pass rush moves. Can go from speed to spin in an instant. Yeah I'm on the Javancy train. Nice array of moves. Seems to have an excellent feel for the game. And a tremendous ST'er to start with.

Seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SonmXKBX4Kk Looks like a high-energy vocal leader type. We could use some Peezy-esque attitude in the lockerroom. Wink

Imagining he will rise before the draft. 4th-5th rd?
